Andrea Pizzo — Outstanding Achievement

Andrea Pizzo, 34, has been one of the Rochester area’s top woman bowlers since the early 1990s, having graduated from the North Park Lanes youth bowling program.

After moving up from the junior ranks, she began bowling with her mom, “Sis” Pizzo, in various scratch leagues.

“Mom bowled in classic leagues at North Park, Clover and Parkview Bowl in the 1970s. She also coached and got me started,” said Pizzo.

Pizzo said that the one bowling achievement she is most proud of is being a part of the five-woman national record team series of 3,610 scratch, rolled in March of 2006 at Bowl-A-Roll Lanes. With teammates Traci Spanitz, Shannon O’Keefe, and local/state Hall of Famers Colleen Celentani and Judy Koester, the quintet topped their own city record of 3,551 rolled one year earlier.

Pizzo also holds a NY State Women’s record doubles score with Spanitz. The pair rolled a 579 game — Spanitz with 300, Pizzo with 279 — in the 2005 NYSWBA Tournament at AMF Airport Lanes in Buffalo.

The right-hander won the 2000 Rochester Queens Tournament and also has 3rd, 4th and 5th place finishes in the prestigious event.

Pizzo is a 4-time champion on the Rochester Women’s Elite Bowling Tour, formerly known as the Coors/Pinbusters Touring Tournament League. Pizzo added her fourth title on March 10 at AMF Terrace Garden Lanes. She has served as league president for the past two seasons.

Pizzo owns eight scratch and two handicap City Tournament titles, including the Division 1 Scratch Doubles last month with Spanitz.

The right-hander made the Rochester Women’s All-Star team in 1996-97 (207 composite average) and in 2000-01 (213 composite average).

Pizzo owns three 300 games, her first coming in the 1999 City Tournament at Fairview Lanes. At last count she had 60 sets of 700 or higher, with an all-time best of 780.

“That’s my goal,” she said. “I want to hit 800 before I retire.”
