Automated Device for Asthma Monitoring

Founded by Sharon Samjitsingh ’13MS, Prinson Dsouza ’13MS, Ran Gao ’13MS, and ChenChen Qu ’13MS (all graduates of UR’s Technical Entrepreneurship and Management program), Health Care Originals, Inc. (HCO) is an upstate New York start-up commercializing patented University of Rochester technology.

HCO develops products for the management of chronic respiratory diseases. The company’s first product is known as ADAMM, a three-part solution comprised of a wearable, a smartphone app and a web portal; this device provides asthma sufferers with a safe, non-invasive method for asthma management. ADAMM provides Intelligent Asthma Management, which gives caregivers peace of mind and improves asthmatics’ quality of life.

Since their founding, HCO has been recognized globally as an innovator in the field of wearables, and has been celebrated as disruptive health care tech. During their time at UR, the team took first place (and $10,000) in the Mark Ain Business Model Competition, 2015-2016 Innovator of the Year Award at the Innovation World Cup, and was a 2015-2016 Healthcare and Wellness Winner in the same competition.

Health Care Originals began in the UR Student Incubator in 2013, and graduated into the High Tech Rochester (now NextCorps) Affiliate Program in 2014. HCO continues to disrupt the world of medical technology through new opportunities and partnerships, including ongoing data analysis with the Rochester Data Science Consortium.
