Why did you choose the University of Rochester?

I chose UR because I loved the fact that UR encourages students to explore different majors by experimenting with classes and joining various clubs. I was one of the many students that came to UR not knowing exactly what I wanted to study or what I wanted my career path to be, but I did not get anxious or feel behind during the college process because of the supportive UR community. UR was the perfect fit for me.

Why did you choose the business major?

I had never taken a business class in high school. Since it was required to take science classes in high school, I decided to come to UR as a biology major. After taking a science-filled first semester as a first-year student, I decided to try out a business class my second semester. After a week in the business class, I switched my major. I loved how applicable the information was and being able to finally give context and meaning to vocabulary I had heard on the news. While switching from biology to business was bold, it was an amazing decision that I have not regretted once.

What has been your favorite undergraduate Simon Business School course and why?

My favorite undergraduate Simon course has been ACC 201: Financial Accounting. Because it was my first Simon class at UR, it opened my eyes to the business world; this is the class that made me change my major. I was able to use my organization and problem-solving skills to solve business problems, which excited me from day one. I also developed a close relationship with the professor by attending office hours and emailing her whenever I had questions.

Through my experiences thus far, I have noticed that the undergraduate Simon professors have only had their students’ best interests at heart. They will sit with students outside of office hours or continue to email back and forth with them until they understand the material because the professors want their students to succeed. I have loved my experiences so far in the Undergraduate Business Program!

What are your activities outside of class?

One of my major activities outside of class is being the communications director for GlobeMed. In addition, I have been a teaching assistant for both calculus and financial accounting and will be a teaching assistant for business information systems and analytics in the fall. I have also done some work as a program assistant for the Undergraduate Business Program and am currently a business peer advisor. Outside of business-related activities, I am a member of the fundraising team for Relay for Life as well as an executive board member for Chabad, one of the Jewish organizations on campus. Lastly, I am a member of Kappa Delta Sorority.

Have you done an internship?

I have loved getting hands-on experience in the business world through my internships after freshman and sophomore year. The summer after my freshman year, I worked as a sales and marketing intern at ZeptoMetrix Corporation, a biotechnology company in Franklin, Massachusetts. I created marketing materials for the company, which they now use at biotechnology trade shows to help secure new customers.

After sophomore year, I worked as a strategic consulting intern within the data science division at Kronos Incorporated, a workforce management company. I used data to run reports and build dashboards while simultaneously helping my team compare its current analytics product to its future product.

I have valued my internship experiences and feel internships are the best way to build a supportive network and find the areas of business that interest me the most.

What are your career goals?

I do not yet know exactly where I want to end up after graduation. There are many areas of business I still want to explore, but I think my goal is to end up in an area of consulting. Consulting would allow me to work in a fast-paced group environment that includes both data analysis and customer engagement.
