Parent & Family Orientation
Parent and family orientation will take place from August 19-20, 2020. Parents and families arriving with international students on August 19 will be invited to participate in international parents and families programming on August 18. International parents and families are welcome to attend the orientation programs on August 19 and 20 as well. The information covered in the international parents orientation is different from what's covered in the general parent's orientation.
Parent and family orientation begins by helping your child check in to their residence hall, followed by an on-campus EXPO, Convocation, information sessions, tours, and other special events. For more information on Move-in see the move-in information page
Parent and family orientation sessions begin the next day at 8 a.m. and go until 4:30 p.m. They include programming to help parents and families gain a better understanding of how the University is run and how to help your student navigate the systems. This includes sessions with representatives from:
- Dean of first-year students
- Residential life and housing services
- Public safety
- Undergraduate research
- University Health Service (UHS) and University Counseling Center (UCC)
- Parent and family relations
- Information technology
At the end of the day day, there is an opportunity for parents, families, and students in their respective schedules to have dinner before students return for more programming. If a student has a sibling coming with you to the program, more information can be found here.
Before you head back home, you can attend a reception hosted by the deans and directors to get a few questions answered, grab a business card for future reference, and reflect on your orientation experience.
The complete parent and family orientation schedule will be available in mid-July. Please contact the orientation staff with questions at (585) 275-4414 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Registration for parent and family orientation will open Summer 2020.
