Incoming Student Checklist

Get ready for Rochester! Before we welcome you to campus and you begin your first semester, there are some tasks that you need to complete. Please review the Incoming Student Checklist below to make sure you’re ready to join the University of Rochester community. The checklist includes tasks for all incoming students, including first-year and transfer students.

All checklist items are required, unless marked otherwise. If you miss any of these deadlines, please contact us at orientation@rochester.edu.

COVID-19 Safety Training Module (Available Soon)
The University will be launching a mandatory online COVID-19 Safety Training Module that all students, faculty and staff need to complete in preparation for safely returning and arriving to campus. The module will be located in Blackboard under Return to Campus COVID-19 Safety Training.

June 1Access and Review the First Year Guide
The guide will help you familiarize yourself with the Rochester Curriculum, help you pick out your classes, and learn more about advising and registration.

Access Blackboard
Blackboard is the University of Rochester's learning management system. You will use Blackboard to complete your required modules for the online summer orientation program. Modules will be listed under My Organizations in Online Orientation 2020.

Complete the Orientation Questionnaire
This form is now closed.
This form is to assist your advisor in helping you make course selections and is not the final selection of your major and/or courses for the fall semester.

If you did not submit the form and would like to switch your intended major from the School of Arts and Sciences to the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (or vice versa), please complete this form.

Attend the Academic Honesty Webinar or Watch the Recording
It is REQUIRED that you attend this live webinar or view the recording at a later date. You also need to complete the required module through Blackboard under My Organizations in Online Orientation 2020 by Sunday, August 9.

Complete Your Health History and Immunization Form
You will receive this form in the mail in June. You must fill out the form that is mailed to you and return it via mail. No copies will be accepted. You can find more information on the University Health Service website.

August 1Purchase Your Computer through the UR Tech Store (if applicable)
If you are interested in purchasing your computer through the UR Tech Store, you will need to order it no later than August 1 to ensure that it ships before the fall semester begins.

Complete Your Writing Self-Placement Survey
Fill out this REQUIRED module in Blackboard to help you determine the best option for fulfilling your primary writing requirement at the University of Rochester.

August 9Complete the Academic Honesty Tutorial
You can access this module through Blackboard under My Organizations in Online Orientation 2020. You are also required to view the live Academic Honesty webinar on Thursday, June 25 or its recording.

Register for Your Fall Courses
Your advisor will work with you to determine your fall class schedule, and you will be required to complete a tutorial on the registration system before registration opens.

To ensure that your textbooks arrive in time for the fall semester, please purchase them no later than August 12.

Under your profile in Handshake, select My Profile and Career Interests to update. Once updated, Handshake will highlight opportunities relevant to you and offer personalized connections to customize your internship search experience.
