Areas of interest/focus in research
My core interest is in Brain-Computer Interfaces (aka Neurotechnology) that monitor neural signals to provide insights into cognitive processes, enable communication, and control for individuals with disabilities. I enjoy combining this idea with Mixed Reality technology.
Labs / departments / offsite programs where research was conducted
Center for Understanding Biology using Imaging Technology (CUBIT) at Stony Brook University under Dr. Chrisitine DeLorenzo.
Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) Lab at the University of Rochester under Dr. Zhen Bai.
About me...
Hi Everyone! I'm Josh and I'm part of the class of 2025. I grew up around the world, but I currently live on Long Island, NY. I like to consider myself a jack of all trades, so I'm always up to try new things. I enjoy playing badminton and soccer or just watching movies on any big screen I can find! You can probably find me wandering around Campus in my free time, so feel free to stop me and say hi! I'm looking forward to helping other students as a Research Ambassador
How has your experience as a researcher influenced your career objectives?
Coming into UofR, I was heavily oriented towards the neuroscience side and continuing my work with the CUBIT Lab. I quickly realized that I wanted to get more involved with MedTech, hence why I joined the HCI lab in my Junior year. I was able to work with the Office of Undergraduate Research and other Organizations across campus to fine-tune my initiatives and goals. I hope to continue this pattern and pursue my core interest in Neurotech in a professional manner even after college.
Campus organizations, programs, activities, clubs, awards/distinctions
I am a part of Studio X where I even held our first annual XR Research Expo in collaboration with the Office of Undergraduate Research. I also participated in the Student Association.
- Research and Innovation Grant 2021
- Schwartz Discover Grant
- 2024 Deans List
Fun Fact: when I'm not doing research you can usually find me...
Admiring the beauty of our campus (unless it is too cold in which I'm then relaxing in my warm room).
Areas where I may be particularly helpful
- Emails to professors and guidelines
- Finding relevant labs
- Opportunities research related and not
- Resources on Campus
What advice do you have for prospective or new researchers?
I want to emphasize that it is important that you enjoy your research; Being passionate about what you study also gives you motivation to get through the hurdles. Finding any opportunity is good, but it doesn't mean you are tied down forever. UofR Staff is pretty friendly, so reach out, communicate, and build relationships - even if it doesn't directly lead to a research position.
