Site tour

Familiarize yourself with some of the key settings on the WordPress Dashboard.

Overview

In the top left hand of the page is the title of the site. Hovering over the title and clicking “visit site” will let you look at the live site.

The left-hand column is where all the main options and information for the site are held. Moving down the list here are some of the key features.

  • Posts: This is where all of the posts for the site are held or where a new post can be added.
  • Media: All of the media that has been uploaded to the site can be viewed under the Media tab. This includes images, videos, and pdfs. New media can also be added here as well. Adding media is as simple as dragging and dropping new items into the library.
  • Pages: The pages tab is where all of the pages on the entire site can be viewed, edited or added.
  • Appearance: The “appearance” tab has an icon with a little paint brush. Generally, the main reason you’d need to visit the appearance tab is to view and edit “menus.” For more information on menus visit the navigation page.
  • Settings: Is a super important tab that offers a lot of information about the website.
    • General: Under the “general” settings is where the “site title” and the “tagline” for the site are set. The “URL” for the site is also listed here.
    • Site settings: This area is where the type of menu for the site will be chosen. The options are “Drop down” and “Mega menu.”
