TODAY'S UPDATES

Three new positive cases of COVID-19

Since Wednesday’s notice in @Rochester, there are three new cases of COVID-19 to report: two River Campus students and one Medical Campus student. Please note that the University’s COVID-19 Dashboard is updated daily. Whenever a new case is known, the contact-tracing process begins immediately with confirmed exposures being contacted and required to quarantine.

It’s extremely important for the health of the University community that individuals continue to adhere to the face masking and social distancing protocols. Even as some individuals are now receiving their first or second dose of the vaccine, these practices to prevent the transmission of the virus cannot be relaxed.

If you think you’re experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, it’s important to report them through Dr. Chat Bot immediately. Even if you think your symptoms might be something else—like a cold, seasonal congestion, or allergies—it’s still important to tell University health professionals and contact tracers what you’re experiencing.

Guidance on spring semester guests and visitors

The University’s Coronavirus University Restart Team (CURT) is providing guidance on the policies for visitors and guests on campus for this spring semester. These updates align with current health directives from New York State and will stay in effect until further notice. Read the updated guidance here.

Additionally, while some summer programs have already been canceled or moved online, many University campus programs fill important academic, research, and community needs. Therefore, the Committee on Academic Practices (CAP) will assess conditions on February 15 and again on March 15 and make recommendations regarding summer programs on an individual basis.

AlertUR test set for February 11

The spring semester test of AlertUR will be on Thursday, February 11, at 6 p.m. EST. AlertUR is the emergency notification system for the University, including the Medical Center. In the event of an emergency, alerts are sent by voice, text, and email message. The purpose of the test is to activate the AlertUR system and check that you can be reached immediately. Before the February 11 test, students and employees should review their contact information at https://alert.rochester.edu; sign in with your NetID and password to verify the fastest method for reaching you. This is also a good time to add a cell phone number. Employees with a NetID who do not have a University email address may enter a personal email or phone number to receive emergency alerts. The test will not disrupt scheduled activities. For more information on AlertUR, visit tech.rochester.edu/faqs/alertur-faqs.

Help shape the future of the Warner School of Education

A new Warner School initiative—aimed at reimagining how the school conducts research, connects with the community, prepares practitioners and researchers, focuses on equity and inclusion, structures its organizational environment, and makes an impact—encourages all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of the Warner School and the University, and members of the Greater Rochester community to submit their ideas for what they think the Warner School’s strategic priorities should be in these six areas. Submit your ideas by March 1. Learn more here.

Flags will be lowered for Elizabeth Hulme

University flags will be lowered Tuesday, February 16, for Elizabeth Hulme, a registered nurse in critical care nursing, who died on January 13. Hulme joined the University in 2001.
