TODAY'S UPDATES

Six new positive cases of COVID-19

Since Monday’s notice in @Rochester, there are six new cases of COVID-19 to report: six River Campus students. Please note that the University’s COVID-19 Dashboard is updated daily. Whenever a new case is known, the contact-tracing process begins immediately with confirmed exposures being contacted and required to quarantine.

It’s extremely important for the health of the University community that individuals continue to adhere to the face masking and social distancing protocols. Even as some individuals are now receiving their first or second dose of the vaccine, these practices to prevent the transmission of the virus cannot be relaxed.

If you think you’re experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, it’s important to report them through Dr. Chat Bot—for non–Medical Center faculty, staff, and all students and for Medical Center employees—immediately. Even if you think your symptoms might be something else—like a cold, seasonal congestion, or allergies—it’s still important to tell University health professionals and contact tracers what you’re experiencing.

Feeling stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed in these COVID times? Students can reach out to the University Counseling Center for help. UHS also maintains a site with COVID Coping and Resources for students. Employees can contact the UR Medicine Employee Assistance Program, one of several support services for faculty and staff.

Provide community support with a United Way gift

United Way harnesses the power of collective giving to unite community members, businesses, and local leaders in doing good by raising their hands, opening their hearts, and sharing resources to build a thriving region for all. “This year, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has made our neighbors’ needs greater than ever, so this campaign is more important than ever,” says Elizabeth Stauderman, vice president for communications and this year’s campaign chair. Make your pledge of any amount and be entered to win weekly prizes.

History project tells a more complete story of Frances Seward

Department of History doctoral students Shellie Clark, Carrie Knight, and Lauren Davis are using the University’s extensive Seward Family Archive, housed in the Rare Books, Special Collections, and Preservation Department at River Campus Libraries, to reevaluate the life of Frances Seward—wife of William Henry Seward, secretary of state to Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson. With the help of Sarabeth Rambold, a history PhD student and videography manager for the Seward project, and Demi Robbins ’23, the students have now produced a video about Frances Seward’s life.
