Standing in solidarity with with our Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander Communities

In a message to the University community, President Sarah Mangelsdorf, Chief Diversity Officer Mercedes Ramírez Fernández, and Vice Provost for Global Engagement Jane Gatewood expressed unequivocal support for Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander students, postdocs, faculty, and staff in light of recent violence and acts of hate against these communities. The message also offered University resources for reporting instances of bias or discrimination, and in providing support, guidance, and counsel.

TODAY'S UPDATES

Four new positive cases of COVID-19

Since Thursday’s notice in @Rochester, there are four new cases of COVID-19 to report: three River Campus undergraduate students, and one graduate student. Please note that the University’s COVID-19 Dashboard is updated daily. Whenever a new case is known, the contact-tracing process begins immediately with confirmed exposures being contacted and required to quarantine.

It’s extremely important for the health of the University community that individuals continue to adhere to the face masking and social distancing protocols. Even as some individuals are now receiving their first or second dose of the vaccine, these practices to prevent the transmission of the virus cannot be relaxed.

If you think you’re experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, it’s important to report them through Dr. Chat Bot—for non–Medical Center faculty, staff, and all students and for Medical Center employees—immediately. Even if you think your symptoms might be something else—like a cold, seasonal congestion, or allergies—it’s still important to tell University health professionals and contact tracers what you’re experiencing.

Feeling stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed in these COVID times? Students can reach out to the University Counseling Center for help. UHS also maintains a site with COVID Coping and Resources for students. Employees can contact the UR Medicine Employee Assistance Program, one of several support services for faculty and staff.

Today is Match Day

Today, fourth-year medical students across the US will find out where they’ll be spending the next four years for their residencies. Members of the University community are invited to participate in a brief virtual Match Day ceremony for School of Medicine and Dentistry students starting at 11:30 a.m. You can also wish incoming and outgoing trainees good luck on social media using #URochesterMatch2021 and #Match2021.

Flags will be lowered for Life Trustee Colby Chandler

University flags will be lowered Thursday, March 25, for Life Trustee Colby Chandler, who died on March 4. Chandler, who served as chief executive at Eastman Kodak Co. in the 1980s, joined the University’s Board of Trustees in 1978. He became a life trustee in 2000.
