TODAY'S UPDATES

Nine new positive cases of COVID-19

Since Friday’s notice in @Rochester, there are nine new cases of COVID-19 to report: five River Campus students; one River Campus employee; and three Eastman Campus students. Please note that the University’s COVID-19 Dashboard is updated daily. Whenever a new case is known, the contact-tracing process begins immediately with confirmed exposures being contacted and required to quarantine.

It’s extremely important for the health of the University community that individuals continue to adhere to the face masking and social distancing protocols. Even as some individuals are now receiving their first or second dose of the vaccine, these practices to prevent the transmission of the virus cannot be relaxed.

If you think you’re experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, it’s important to report them through Dr. Chat Bot—for non–Medical Center faculty, staff, and all students and for Medical Center employees—immediately. Even if you think your symptoms might be something else—like a cold, seasonal congestion, or allergies—it’s still important to tell University health professionals and contact tracers what you’re experiencing.

Feeling stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed in these COVID times? Students can reach out to the University Counseling Center for help. UHS also maintains a site with COVID Coping and Resources for students. Employees can contact the UR Medicine Employee Assistance Program, one of several support services for faculty and staff.

Finance and Administration leadership updates

Michael Andrews ’90S (MBA) has announced that he’ll be retiring July 30 as senior associate vice president for budgets and planning and deputy to senior vice president for finance and administration and CFO Holly Crawford. Andrews, who joined the University in 2016, is credited with facilitating several key administration and finance system projects, including the rollout of a new budget system and long-range planning tool and the establishment of an enterprise risk management program for the University. “During his relatively short time here, Mike has made a large impact,” Crawford says. “He has provided invaluable skills in project management, system implementation, and enterprise risk management.”

Elizabeth Milavec ’22S (MBA) has been promoted to senior associate vice president for finance and deputy to the senior vice president for finance and administration and CFO, effective July 1. Since 2016, she has served as associate vice president for financial operations and controller. “Liz has provided consistent and diligent oversight and guidance over the University’s finance functions,” Crawford says, adding that Milavec served as the finance executive sponsor of the student finance portion of the UR Student implementation. Milavec is also leading efforts for tracking and assessing opportunities to ensure maximum financial recovery of University COVID-19 pandemic expenses through programs such as the federal CAREs Act.

New electronic process for FAO request form

Effective April 12, the new Financial Activity Object (FAO) request form will be converted from paper form to an electronic process within UR Financials. The paper form will be accepted through April 23. This electronic process of the new FAO request applies to FAO types for Operating Program (OP); Gift (GF6s only); and Loan Program (LN). Email generalaccounting@ur.rochester.edu with questions.

Flags will be lowered for Roger Van Horn

University flags will be lowered Thursday, April 8, for Roger Van Horn, a phlebotomy operations coordinator at the Medical Center, who died on March 19. Van Horn joined the University in 2013.
