Students, alumni awarded Fulbright grants for overseas study

Lara Andree ’20, ’21W (MS), Jacob Rozowsky ’20, Brianna Roy ’20, Alexis Pope ’21, and Adam DeSchriver ’20, ’20E, were selected to receive 2021–22 grants in the Fulbright US Student Grant program. Sponsored by the Department of State, the program aims to promote mutual understanding and peace between the United States and other nations through educational and cultural exchange.

RTS adds earlier run to #97/Elmwood commuter route

Effective yesterday, RTS has added an earlier run to its #97/Elmwood commuter route that will start at 6:28 a.m. on weekdays. The 6:28 a.m. run is in addition to the 7:30 a.m. run. Human bodies are programmed to tolerate bumps and bruises. “While we are young, that repair actually works almost flawlessly,” says Vera Gorbunova, the Doris Johns Cherry Professor in the Department of Biology, who studies mole rats. When aging sets in, though, “now damage outpaces repair.”

Koru mindfulness workshop

Want a breather after this semester? Learn the fundamentals of mindfulness meditation during the next Koru mindfulness four-week workshop. Participants will learn about and practice two new meditation techniques weekly, and bring more mindfulness and gratitude into their lives. An upcoming session begins on June 3 at 4 p.m. EDT Registration is required. This workshop is open to all undergraduate and graduate students and is brought to you by the Mindful University Project.

'Lunch and Listen' program for Medical Center staff and clinical workers features organ music

The next “Lunch and Listen” concert from Eastman Performing Arts Medicine and the Office of Patient Experience takes place today, Tuesday, May 25, from noon to 1 p.m. EDT. Medical Center staff and clinical workers can join via Zoom to hear artists from the Eastman School of Music, and call in to make requests. This week’s concert features students of David Higgs, chair of the Department of Organ, Sacred Music, and Historical Keyboards, playing the Craighead-Saunders organ live from Christ Church on East Avenue.

Heads up: Pause in library services

On May 29 and 30, the University libraries will undergo maintenance that will affect the libraries behind-the-scenes software. The effects will be minimal, but you may need to make adjustments. Consider the following to avoid disruption:
  • Make requests prior to May 29
  • Borrow materials through the Rush Rhees Library Q&i desk
  • Visit the Interlibrary Loan page
Items with a June 1 due date will be auto-renewed for you, and Q&i staff will be available to assist you to renew materials or review items within your account. If you have questions or need assistance, see Rush Rhees Library Q&i staff directly or e-mail them at RCLQandiReq@library.rochester.edu.
