Memorial Day: 'Courage, service, and sacrifice'

Members of the University community have given their lives in service to America almost since the University was founded in 1850. In recognition of Memorial Day, here are the stories of Bjorn Lindboe ’45, Lester Shade ’47, and Gary Hopps ’61, who died while serving in the armed forces.

100 years later, remembering the Tulsa Race Massacre

Flags will be lowered for Debra Weidman

University flags will be lowered Thursday, June 3, for Debra Weidman, who was a senior typesetter and mechanical artist in University Communications. Weidman, who joined the University staff in 2001, died on May 9.

Koru mindfulness workshop

Want a breather after this semester? Learn the fundamentals of mindfulness meditation during the next Koru mindfulness four-week workshop. Participants will learn about and practice two new meditation techniques weekly, and bring more mindfulness and gratitude into their lives. An upcoming session begins on June 3 at 4 p.m. EDT Registration is required. This workshop is open to all undergraduate and graduate students and is brought to you by the Mindful University Project.

PhD training program on augmented and virtual reality

The PhD training program for virtual and augmented reality is looking for PhD candidates in the fields of biomedical engineering, brain and cognitive sciences, computer science, electrical and computer engineering, neuroscience, or optics who desire cross-training experience to pair with their existing studies.

For paid fellowship applications, apply by July 1. The funded fellowships can be offered only to US citizens and permanent residents. For the general trainee program, apply by August 15. Learn more about the applications here. For questions, email Kathleen DeFazio.

Digital performance remembers those lost during pandemic

Attend a virtual stream of “Awakening: A Spring 2021 Digital Performance” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, on YouTube. The collaboration between the Arthur Satz Department of Music orchestras; Missy Pfohl Smith, director of the Program of Dance and Movement; and the Department of Dance and Movement, serves as a memorial for those lost during the COVID-19 pandemic. It will feature a slideshow of submitted photos at the end.
