Rochester researchers join national initiative to advance quantum science

The US Department of Energy has awarded a major grant to Rochester researchers as part of an initiative to advance quantum science and technology. The researchers, led by Todd Krauss, chair of the Department of Chemistry, will address a principal challenge in quantum science: quantum states of matter are stable only at temperatures far colder than ever recorded on Earth. If stability can be achieved at room temperature, the benefits of quantum applications can be realized on a broader scale.

Security Tip: Phishing is top scam

University IT reminds the University community to be wary of official-looking emails sent by scammers to bait you into disclosing information. Also known as phishing, these messages can appear to come from legitimate banks, organizations, stores, contests, etc. There are a few ways to identify emails as phishing attempts. Red flags may include grammatical errors, too-good-to-be-true offers, and requests for personal information. Remember that legitimate institutions will never ask for personal data (usernames, passwords, social security numbers). If you suspect an email looks “phishy,” do not respond or click any links or attachments, and report suspicious activity immediately to abuse@urmc.rochester.edu. Visit University IT’s Phishing Education page for more information, helpful tips to avoid the bait, and examples of malicious emails.
