Vaccination status reporting for faculty and staff
In a message sent yesterday to faculty and staff from University leadership, the University, along with officials from Rochester Regional Health, the Monroe County Health Department, and others jointly announced that each will be requiring employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or submit to frequent regular COVID testing and stricter safety protocols, including daily symptom tracking and masking indoors. The full UR Medicine health system of hospitals, nursing homes, and home care agencies is also participating in the program.
To implement this requirement and to manage public health at the University, all faculty and staff, including those who are working in a hybrid model or remotely, are required to report their vaccination status by Monday, August 16, by completing the online COVID vaccine participation form (VPN or on-campus network connection required.)

Pulsed lasers in liquids speed up the hunt for effective catalysts
Chemical catalysts are the change agents behind the production of just about everything we use in our daily lives, from plastics to prescription drugs. However, developing even one catalyst material can take months, even years, when using traditional wet chemistry procedures. Rochester researchers led by Astrid Müller, an assistant professor of chemical engineering, say there is a way to shorten that process dramatically—by instead using pulsed lasers in liquids.
Flags will be lowered for Jennifer Dinse
University flags will be lowered Thursday, August 12, for Jennifer Dinse, a medical lab technician, who died on June 5. Dinse joined the University staff in 2001.
Sitting in a radon-filled room and receiving targeted radiation treatment in a medical facility are as different as “chalk and cheese,” said Brian Marples, the Dr. Sidney H. and Barbara L. Sobel Professor in Radiation Oncology. “In clinical therapy, we know exactly what the dose is, we know exactly where it’s going.”

The University is offering employees the option to make their own travel arrangements online, which provides 24/7 access to plan and book their business travel. Save money by taking advantage of the preprogrammed University contracted discounts with American, United, and JetBlue airlines, as well as with car rental companies and thousands of hotels worldwide. The travel agency fee for online bookings is significantly lower than the fees associated with agent-assisted phone or email bookings. DePrez Travel is using Concur for its online reservations.
