Student international travel update for spring 2022
The University continues to carefully monitor the COVID-19 pandemic globally and is tentatively opening additional global experiences for students, including University-sponsored or -supported travel undertaken by graduate or undergraduate students. This includes formal study programs, exchange programs, internships, conferences, research, fellowships, service learning, volunteer programs, performances, athletic competitions, and additional types of international experiences. Undergraduate students interested in applying to the tentatively approved education abroad programs can review the programs here.
All global experiences outside of approved undergraduate programs through the Center for Education Abroad planned for the 2022 spring semester must be submitted to the Center for Education Abroad first and will require review and approval by the Office for Global Engagement’s Travel Review Subcommittee. To date, a very limited number of programs have been approved and the majority have been postponed until at least the 2022 fall semester. To submit a proposed global experience for review, all departments or individuals in any school or division of the University currently planning such a student experience for the spring semester should complete this survey. The Center for Education Abroad will review and advise on further steps. Programs will only be considered if the planning is already well-developed. Current conditions related to the pandemic vary across the world and some regions are experiencing more severe conditions than others. This generally allows for opportunities in some regions, but limits opportunity in others. The Faculty Club, located on the first floor of Douglass Commons, will open for the semester on Wednesday, August 25, and will be open Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Guests can view the menu online. Faculty and staff are welcome to eat in any dining location on campus, as credit and debit cards and URos are again accepted at all locations. A new student pop-funk band, USP, will make their debut performance today, Wednesday, August 25, at 6 p.m. on the Wilson Commons Porch. Before moving in last week, and with COVID-19 hampering in-person contact, members of the University’s Class of 2025 became acquainted another way: Instagram. Nearly 400 members of the incoming class have shared photos, hobbies, interests, and experiences on the Instagram page urochester.2025. Created by Maveline Nguyen ’25, a first-year student from Hanoi, Vietnam, the page has almost 1,400 followers and was a pathway for students to bond during a global pandemic.
