Professors Jason Middleton, Elaine Sia, and Will Bridges (pictured from left) “each embody the kind of innovative pedagogy that we seek to recognize” with Arts, Sciences & Engineering’s Goergen Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, says Jeffrey Runner, dean of the College. “This acknowledgment is a reminder to us all of the value our highly creative teachers add to our students’ experience and our College campus community as a whole,” Runner adds. The recipients will be formally recognized on October 28.

Details of the University’s national search to find his successor will be shared in the coming weeks.

SOCIAL MEDIA SPOTLIGHT

Screenshot of the University’s Facebook page highlighting a digital performance of Beethoven’s “Choral Fantasy"
Last fall—amid the COVID-19 pandemic—the University’s orchestras and audio engineering faculty collaborated with colleagues in the Oberlin College Arts and Sciences Orchestra for a full digital performance of Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy. With in-person and virtual players and an all-virtual chorus and soloists, the piece included more than 200 collaborators from all over the world. Now, that performance is up for Grammy Award consideration in the orchestra, choral, long-video, and audio production categories. Find the performance on the University’s Facebook or LinkedIn page, or on YouTube.
