Medical Center, Foodlink announce partnership to address local food insecurity

Foodlink and the Medical Center have announced a partnership to address food insecurity by providing emergency food assistance through health providers, starting with a pilot project underway at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Six new positive cases of COVID-19

There are six new cases of COVID-19 to report: three River Campus students and three employees. Please note that the University’s COVID-19 Dashboard is updated when a new case is reported. Find the latest COVID-19 messages and updates here.

A reminder on face masks: they must be worn properly, covering the nose and mouth, indoors on the University’s campuses and properties. Visit the face mask FAQ page for full information. Face masks with air valves are not permitted, nor are face shields alone without a proper face mask underneath.

Eastman School of Music alumni receive Grammy nominations

Several graduates of the Eastman School of Music have received nominations for the 64th Grammy Awards. Eastman also has several alumni included in orchestras that played on nominated albums.

Beth Greenwood ’22 in a league of her own

Mechanical engineering major Beth Greenwood ’22 continues to break boundaries for women in baseball. She’s played for Rochester’s varsity team, trains with the US national women’s squad, and will appear in an upcoming TV show on Amazon Prime based on A League of Their Own.

‘Nourish to Flourish Snack Attack’

Take a study break and learn about creating a compassionate relationship with food and your body while making charcuterie boards. There will be fruits, nuts, crackers, hummus, honey ham, hot chocolate, tea, and the first screening for the Nourish to Flourish mini-documentary about mindful eating. The event takes place Saturday, December 4, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Douglass Community Kitchen and is open to all undergraduate students. Registration is required.

Find writing help at ‘Night to Write’

At “Night to Write,” AS&E students will find snacks, coffee, and company to help fuel productivity and fight end-of-semester procrastination. Writing tutors and librarians will be available to help and answer questions. Drop in and write as long as you would like on Monday, December 6, from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Hawkins-Carlson Room, Rush Rhees Library.

Health Bites: Mindfulness and meditation

Receive an introduction to and learn the benefits of mindfulness and meditation on Tuesday, December 14, at noon EST. Participants will engage in a mindful breathing exercise and a 10-minute guided meditation. Register for this virtual session.

Apply to the Geriatrics Faculty Scholars Program

The Aging Institute, Division of Geriatrics and Aging, and the Finger Lakes Geriatric Education Center are accepting applications for the 2022 Geriatric Faculty Scholars Program. The program is open to junior and mid-career academic faculty from the School of Nursing and School of Medicine and Dentistry with an interest in aging who wish to spearhead program development through geriatric education within their school, program, division, or department. Applications are due February 7. Learn more and apply here.

Annual River Campus Holiday Shopping Fair

Visit booths from 30 local creators at the Holiday Shopping Fair on Friday, December 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Hirst Lounge, Wilson Commons. Shop from an assortment of jewelry, plants, ornaments, pottery, coasters, snarky prints, soaps, apparel, and accessories including scrunchies and scarves. Enter to win a prize pack courtesy of Wilson Commons Student Activities just for stopping by.

Support the Interfaith Chapel’s ‘Gifts for the Giving’

For its annual “Gifts for the Giving” campaign, the Interfaith Chapel on the River Campus is collecting new, unwrapped toys, food, and gift cards to benefit the Baden Street Settlement and the Eastern Service Workers Association. New Dean's Lectureship Series highlights Medical Center, international experts

Vera Gorbunova, the Doris Johns Cherry Professor in the Department of Biology and codirector of the Rochester Aging Research Center, will give the inaugural lecture of the Medical Center’s newly established Dean’s Lectureship Series. The lectures will provide University faculty, students, and staff the chance to hear from both international experts and the best that the School of Medicine and Dentistry has to offer on a broad range of topics. Gorbunova’s talk, “Mechanisms of Longevity: Lessons from Long-Lived Mammals,” takes place Monday, December 6, at 4 p.m. in the Class of ’62 Auditorium (G-9425), Medical Center. The Rochester Police Department and other first responders joined Golisano Children’s Hospital earlier this week to kick off the fourth annual “Good Night Lights.” The lights will continue every Wednesday through December 22.
