Minimum wage for student employees to be raised to $15 per hour

Effective December 26, the minimum wage for student employees will be raised to $15 per hour. This increase affects all students—undergraduate and graduate—and brings these workers in line with the minimum wage increase for staff that was announced in November. “Our student employees are valued colleagues,” said Interim Provost Sarah Peyre. “Their contributions are essential to the operations of many departments, labs, and other units across the campus, and the work they do is remarkable given that they must balance their campus jobs with classes, extracurriculars, and other responsibilities.” Student employees will see the results of this increase in their paychecks in the final pay period of 2021.

Security Tip: Last-minute shopping and delivery scams

University IT warns the community to be mindful of last-minute shopping and delivery scams. With the uptick in cyber spending and overloaded delivery services, this is always a favorite time of year for malicious actors. Be a security-savvy online shopper and always purchase from reputable companies. Be wary of scams like phishing emails or texts that pose as official notices from delivery companies asking for personal information, bogus “tracking links,” or messages stating an issue with a shipment. When in doubt, go back to your online account for your order and tracking info. Always contact the company directly with concerns and delete suspicious emails. Find more tips and information on the Information Security website.

Mail your holiday packages from campus

Holiday cards and packages can be mailed on the River Campus at the Campus Mail Center, located in the basement level of Todd Union. All faculty, staff, and students can utilize the discounted rates for USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL (International). Depending on the type of shipping service, there can be up to a 40 percent discount from going to a retail facility. Campus Mail also has a selection of cardboard boxes, forever and holiday stamps, flat rate boxes, and express and overnight envelopes. The Campus Mail Center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are 15-minute parking spaces located outside the Todd Union building.
