Honing in on a shared network of cancer genes

Wilmot Cancer Institute researchers are a step closer to understanding the complex gene interactions that cause a cell to become malignant. In a new study led by Hartmut Land, the Robert and Dorothy Markin Professor of Biomedical Genetics and deputy director of the Wilmot Cancer Institute, and Matthew McCall, an associate professor of biostatistics and of biomedical genetics, the group used network modeling to hone in on a set of such interactions that are critical to malignancy, and likely to be fertile ground for broad cancer therapies.

Update on new positive cases of COVID-19

Since yesterday’s @Rochester update, there are 36 new cases of COVID-19: 12 River Campus students, 11 River Campus employees, two Eastman Campus students, and 11 Medical Campus students. Please note that the University’s COVID-19 Dashboard is updated when a new case is reported. Find the latest COVID-19 messages and updates here.

A reminder on face masks: they must be worn properly, covering the nose and mouth, indoors on the University’s campuses and properties. Visit the face mask FAQ page for full information. Face masks with air valves are not permitted, nor are face shields alone without a proper face mask underneath.

Institute of International Education's Scholar Research Fund research grants

As a member of the Institute of International Education’s Scholar Research Fund, University scholars who are dedicated to human rights, academic freedom, and the work of the fund are eligible to apply for grants of up to $25,000 that will help fund original research or other projects. Applications will open on January 10 and will be accepted through February 15. Department of Public Safety canned food drive for River Campus Food Pantry

The Department of Public Safety is hosting collection sites throughout River Campus and the Medical Center Campus for canned food goods and nonperishable dry foods for the River Campus Food Pantry through January 28. Find drop-off locations and items in need here. The River Campus Food Pantry serves and supports all University students and postdocs who are food insecure through an in-person location at 105 Wilson Commons, as well as through an online order form.

Eastman Opera Theatre’s season continues with La Calisto

Eastman Opera Theatre presents the baroque opera La Calisto by Francesco Cavalli, January 29–30 and February 3–6. Performances will take place at the Eastman Opera Theatre scene shop at 1344 University Avenue. Tickets for the production are $20 for the general public and free to University ID holders and may be purchased at the Eastman Theatre Box Office a 433 East Main Street or online.
