Update on new positive cases of COVID-19

There are two new positive cases among students to report: one on the River Campus and one on the Medical Campus. Please note that the University’s COVID-19 Dashboard is updated when a new case is reported. Find the latest COVID-19 messages and updates here.

A reminder on face masks: they must be worn properly, covering the nose and mouth, indoors on the University’s campuses and properties. Visit the face mask FAQ page for full information on what kinds of masks are acceptable.

Two Rochester researchers named AAAS fellows

From left: Nicholas Bigelow, the Lee A. DuBridge Professor of Physics and a professor of optics, and Michael Scott, the Arthur Gould Yates Professor of Engineering and also a professor in and chair of the computer science department, have been elected fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. They are among 564 members of the association recognized this year for their scientifically or socially distinguished efforts on behalf of the advancement of science or its applications.

Wilmot’s five-year journey to the ‘blue ribbon’

Five years ago, Wilmot Cancer Institute set out to achieve National Cancer Institute designation as one of the country’s elite centers. In this Q-and-A, Jonathan Friedberg, director of the cancer center and the Samuel E. Durand Chair in Medicine, describes the changes, investment, and teamwork that revitalized Wilmot.

Select eRecord training classes return to Rochester Tech Park

As the COVID-19 case numbers have fallen, several eRecord training classes will again be offered at Rochester Tech Park beginning February 1. Both learners and instructors will be required to wear a medical mask. Visit the eRecord class schedule on the URMC intranet for a full listing of on-site and virtual classes.

The Greene Center has launched a revamped website, providing
  • Easy access to personalized content including career resources, connections, and opportunities for Rochester students. Plus, the ability to sign up for customized alerts with updates of things they are interested in.
  • Resources to support faculty, staff, parents, and families as they have career-related conversations with students.
  • A hub for recruitment, volunteer, and connection opportunities for alumni and employers.
  • An improved user experience for the University community.

Entrepreneurial training for technology innovators

The University is partnering once again with the NSF I-Corps UNY Node to offer a training program meant for university researchers in STEM fields, student entrepreneurs, and early-stage founders. The program is fully virtual and provides an opportunity to explore the market potential of deep technology innovation, all while learning essential entrepreneurial skills.

Candidates must apply online by Thursday, February 3. Contact the Ain Center for Entrepreneurship with questions or to learn more.
