Update on new positive cases of COVID-19

There are four new positive cases among students to report: one on the Medical Campus and three on the River Campus. Please note that the University’s COVID-19 Dashboard is updated when a new case is reported. Find the latest COVID-19 messages and updates here.

A reminder on face masks: they must be worn properly, covering the nose and mouth, indoors on the University’s campuses and properties. Visit the face mask FAQ page for full information on what kinds of masks are acceptable.

Experimental gene therapy targets Duchenne muscular dystrophy

Children in Rochester were recently among the first in the nation to receive an experimental treatment for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The study is part of an accelerating trend of clinical trials involving gene therapies that could transform how a number of childhood neurological disorders are treated.

Flags to be lowered for Life Trustee Carl Angeloff

University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered Thursday, February 17, for Life Trustee Carl Angeloff ’53, who died on January 17. Angeloff was devoted to the University for decades, giving generously of his time and resources. He was a member of the Trustee’s Council of the College for a few years before joining the Board of Trustees in 1991. As a trustee, Angeloff served on the board’s committees on academic affairs, investment, and audit, among other activities. An active Life Trustee, he regularly participated in University events.

Update on using declining balance for off-campus Grubhub purchases

Beginning Monday, February 14, students will no longer be able to use declining balance funds as a payment option for off-campus Grubhub purchases. The ability to use declining balance off-campus was always meant as a temporary solution necessary to supplement student dining options during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing staffing crisis. This spring, Dining Services has reopened Danforth Dining Center, Connections, and Grab and Go (opening Monday, February 14) while also expanding hours in other operations, leading to the elimination of the option to use meal plan funds off-campus. Dining Services will continue to work on expanding other services on campus throughout the spring semester and encourages all students to utilize the Grubhub app for purchases at on-campus dining locations.

Careers in Data Science: Erika Ramsdale

Join the Goergen Institute for Data Science for Careers in Data Science with Erika Ramsdale ’21 (MS). Ramsdale, an associate professor of medicine, is a dual-trained and boarded geriatrician and oncologist, National Institutes of Health-funded researcher, and has a clinical practice treating older adults with gastrointestinal malignancies through Highland Hospital. Learn about her career path, work projects, and tips for a career in medicine and data science. The virtual talk takes place today, February 11, at 11 a.m. EST.

Sunday carillon concert series returns

The Carillon Society resumes its Sunday carillon concert series at 5 p.m. EST on February 13. Enjoy the concert from the Eastman Quadrangle or online. Arrangements include Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” and the Henry Mancini classic, “Moon River.”

Dyson pediatric grand rounds lecture

The 22nd annual Anne E. Dyson Memorial Grand Rounds and Child Advocacy Forum presents “Literacy For All: Chaos or Community” with Kareem Weaver, a co-leader of Full and Complete Reading is a Universal Mandate, which partners with various stakeholders to improve reading results for students, on Wednesday, March 2, at 8 a.m. EST.  Learn more about the virtual event.

Submit abstracts for the 2022 International College of Psychosomatic Medicine Meeting

The Department of Psychiatry has announced that the 2022 International College of Psychosomatic Medicine Meeting will take from September 7–9 in Rochester. “The Biopsychosocial Model: Past, Present, and Future” will offer diverse keynote addresses, workshops, symposia, and presentations that highlight the biopsychosocial model. Submit abstracts by February 28.
