FOR THE COMMUNITY

Public health grand rounds lecture on local food insecurity

To better address food insecurity in the community, the University partnered with Foodlink to establish two food pantries—one at Strong Memorial Hospital and one on the River Campus—that meet patients and students where they are. “A Tale of Two Pantries: Partnering with the Community to Address Local Food Insecurity” features a panel of Foodlink and University pantry teams who will share the importance of community partnerships, the implementation process, lessons learned, and provide insight on future growth. The virtual lecture takes place Friday, February 18, at noon EST.

Precious Sense on view at Hartnett Gallery

Precious Sense, an exhibit of works by Canadian artist Sandra Brewster, is on display until February 19 at the Hartnett Gallery in Wilson Commons. Gallery hours are Wednesdays–Saturdays, noon–7 p.m. (masks required). Brewster’s gestural portraits are made with photography-based gel transfers that function as a metaphor for movement from one place to another, alluding to the migration of the artist’s parents and their peers who left Guyana for Toronto in the late 1960s. The exhibit is part of the yearlong Sawyer Seminar’s events regarding migration.

Lecture: ‘The Intersection of Faith, Spirituality, and EDI Efforts’

When considering the importance of equity, diversity, inclusion, and access, religion and spiritual practices must be taken into account along with other facets of identity. Attend “The Intersection of Faith, Spirituality, and EDI Efforts” on Tuesday, February 22, at 6 p.m. EST to take a more detailed look at the role of faith and spirituality in equity, diversity, inclusion work. Learn more and register for the event, presented by the Office of Alumni Relations and Constituent Engagement in partnership with the Institutional Office of Equity and Inclusion and Diversity Advisory Council. You can also explore the REAL Conversations archive.
