Update on new positive cases of COVID-19

There are two new positive cases among students to report: one on the Medical Campus and one on the River Campus. Please note that the University’s COVID-19 Dashboard is updated when a new case is reported. Find the latest COVID-19 messages and updates here.

New research shows survival rate improvement for extremely preterm infants

A new study coauthored by Carl D’Angio, a professor of pediatrics and chief of the Division of Neonatology, has found that the survival rates of extremely preterm babies have increased significantly in the past decade.

Webinar to launch accreditation self-study

The University is currently in the process of renewing its institutional accreditation with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). As an MSCHE-accredited institution, Rochester secures its designation as a qualified institute of higher learning and is granted access to federal funding. The first part of the MSCHE process includes a two-year institutional self-review to explore key components of the University, including student learning experiences, institutional mission and goals, organizational governance, and much more. Attend an online information session on Tuesday, March 29, from 4 to 5 p.m. to learn how you can be part of this important process.

UR Financials, UR Procurement, and UR Student upgrade

The UR Financials and UR Procurement systems are scheduled to be upgraded Saturday, March 12. UR Procurement will be unavailable from Friday, March 11, at 9 p.m. EDT through Sunday, March 13, at 8 a.m. The upgrade is not expected to affect Procure to Pay (P2P) users. Send questions via email or call (585) 275-2012.

UR Student is being upgraded on Saturday, March 12, and will also be unavailable from Friday, March 11, at 9 p.m. EDT through Sunday, March 13, at 8 a.m. It’s expected that there will be no changes for students or faculty and minimal changes for others; those will be communicated within UR Student after the upgrade is complete.

An updated maintenance schedule for these services is now available. If you experience any UR Student issues with the upgrade, contact the Help Desk at univithelp@rochester.edu or (585) 275-2000, or submit a support ticket.

‘My Student Support Program’ offers expanded mental health support

The University Counseling Center has partnered with Lifeworks to expand coverage of mental health support for all enrolled undergraduate and graduate students. The My Student Support Program (My SSP) is a global counseling service that Rochester students can use no matter where they are, inside and outside the United States; services are confidential and free to Rochester students, regardless of their health insurance provider.  Students can call or text with a licensed counselor directly from their cell phone from any location, and can access self-directed digital content in addition to connecting with clinical professionals who are experienced in helping students cope with the unique challenges they face. Services include:

  • Immediate, 24/7 support available by phone or text in English, Spanish, French, Mandarin, and Cantonese (Simplified Chinese chat)
  • Ongoing short-term solution-focused therapy from a licensed professional counselor by appointment, available through phone or secure video portal and in many additional languages
  • Access to a variety of well-being resources, such as informational articles, podcasts, assessments, videos, and virtual fitness sessions tailored to your specific needs
Students can download the My SSP app from the App Store or Google Play; visit the My SSP website; or call (866) 743-7732. Supervisor Series: The ultimate overview of leave administration

Join UR Medicine EAP, Well-U, and Leave Administration to expand your knowledge of plans such as the Family Medical Leave Act, Paid Family Leave, workers’ compensation, and short- and long-term disability on Wednesday, March 16, from noon to 1:30 p.m. EDT. Anna Krylov, a professor of chemistry at the University of Southern California, will present “Molecules and Light: A Story of Life, Death, and Our Quest for Knowledge” on Monday, March 14, at 4 p.m. in Hutchison Hall, Room 140. There will be a poster session following the seminar in Munnerlyn Atrium, Goergen Hall, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Public roundtable: ‘Identity and Blackness in Mexico’

The yearlong Sawyer Seminar’s events regarding migration continue through the academic year. Join the Humanities Center in person on Wednesday, March 16, noon–2 p.m., for a public discussion about the shifting discourses surrounding Blackness, African descent, and identity in 21st-century Mexico. Speakers include Karma Frierson, an assistant professor of African and African American studies from Washington University in St. Louis, and Pablo Sierra Silva, an associate professor of history at Rochester.
