SOCIAL MEDIA SPOTLIGHT

Screenshot of the UR Medicine Facebook page highlighting The Perry Initiative workshop, part of a national effort to encourage girls to pursue careers in orthopaedics or bioengineering.

Last week, several female members from the Department of Orthopaedics hosted about 30 local high school girls and gave them a chance to simulate orthopaedic procedures—casting, suturing, fracture repair—in a fun and encouraging way. This marks the 10th year that the University has hosted the Perry Initiative workshop, which is part of a national effort to encourage girls to pursue careers in orthopaedics or bioengineering. After the workshop, the students gathered with their parents for a Q&A session with the instructors. Find photos from the day on the UR Medicine Facebook page.
