Grand Challenges Scholars frame their research in a broad context
Now in its fifth year, Rochester’s Grand Challenges Scholar program invites undergraduates to pick one of 14 “grand challenges” of the 21st century, identified by the National Academy of Engineering. Students then tailor their academic experiences to address the challenge they’ve chosen, engaging in five key competencies: research, entrepreneurship, interdisciplinary studies, global experience, and service. Graduate students: apply to the Counselor-in-Residence program
The University Counseling Center, Department of Public Safety, and Office of Residential Life are recruiting for the 2022–23 academic year Counselor-in-Residence program. Counselors-in-residence are full-time Rochester graduate students and receive extensive training, a $7,000 stipend, a partial meal plan, and free University housing in return for providing evening, overnight, and weekend mental health support for residential students. Call for artwork celebrating diversity and wellness
University Health Service is looking for University students to submit or create art that would hang on the third floor of the University Counseling Center as part of several rotating galleries that would highlight student work throughout the academic year. Artwork that would highlight the diverse members of the campus community as well as celebrate mental health and wellness is being sought for the opening show. All are welcome to submit. Include your work’s medium, size, and how it applies to the theme of diversity and wellness. Email submissions in JPEG file format by April 18.

Apply by April 15 for Acute Care Pediatric NP Certificate Program
Transform your pediatric nursing career with the School of Nursing’s Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Post-Master’s Certificate program—the first of its kind in New York State. The one-year certificate program enrolls each fall and prepares master’s-prepared pediatric nurse practitioners to work within a variety of clinical settings and pediatric specialties, meeting a critical need for certified practitioners. Students will complete two semesters of hybrid coursework, consisting of online courses and on-campus intensives. Meyerowitz lecture on the science of kindness
Kelli Harding ’02M (MD), an assistant professor of clinical psychiatry at Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, will be speaking on the science of kindness for the Department of Psychiatry’s annual Meyerowitz lecture. “Feel Better With Kindness: A Framework of Care for our Patients, Colleagues, and Ourselves” takes place Thursday, April 28, at noon EDT in the Class of ’62 Auditorium (G-9425), Medical Center, and virtually.
