Actor Lance Reddick to deliver Rochester’s 2022 Commencement address

Actor Lance Reddick to deliver 2022 commencement address

Actor Lance Reddick, who studied classical composition at the Eastman School of Music, will deliver the University’s 2022 Commencement address during a University-wide ceremony on Friday, May 13.

“We’re delighted to welcome such an accomplished individual and talented actor as Lance Reddick back to Rochester to deliver the commencement address on May 13 as we recognize all of our graduates in-person and as one University,” says University President Sarah Mangelsdorf. “It’s always special when a speaker has a connection to the University as Lance does, and I know that so many of our graduating seniors wished for him to deliver the 2022 address.”

Registration is open for eligible members of the Class of 2022 to participate in University Commencement weekend events and secure guest tickets for the University-wide ceremony.

A ‘cautionary tale’ about location tracking

Researchers including Gourab Ghoshal, the Stephen Biggar ’92 and Elizabeth Asaro ’92 Fellow in Data Science and an associate professor of physics, of mathematics, and of computer science, have found that a person’s mobility patterns can be predicted with surprising accuracy based on data collected from their acquaintances—and from strangers who are at the same location at a similar time.

‘Adopt’ an international senior for graduation

Due to visa restrictions, high travel costs, and other factors, some international seniors in the College may not have any family present to celebrate their accomplishments at graduation. Consider filling in for their family by adopting a student. If you’re interested in getting to know one of these students and can attend a departmental ceremony on Saturday, May 14, and take a lot of pictures, fill out this short form. Contact Molly Morrison for more information.
