Blinded in an accident, guitar student finds community at the Eastman School

Update on new positive cases of COVID-19

There are 18 new positive cases among students to report: two on the Eastman Campus, three on the Medical Campus, and 18 on the River Campus. Please note that the University’s COVID-19 Dashboard is updated when a new case is reported. Find the latest COVID-19 messages and updates here.

Flags will be lowered for Nahren-gherel Ubushin

University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered Tuesday, April 19, for Nahren-gherel Ubushin, a student at the School of Nursing, who died on March 31.

Isolation plan implemented for students in residence halls

Last week, students living in on-campus residences were notified of a new, temporary plan to address the need for additional isolation options for COVID-positive students. Find the updated guidelines here.

Find writing help at Write-a-Thon and Night to Write

The Writing Fellows will be available to help AS&E students during the Write-a-Thon on Sunday, April 24, at 3 p.m. through Monday, April 25, at 3 a.m. The fellows will tutor papers—from any discipline and at any stage in the writing process—while you refuel with snacks. Join the session in the Writing, Speaking, and Argument Program main office, Rush Rhees Library, Room G-122

At Night to Write, AS&E students will find snacks, coffee, and company to help fuel productivity and fight end-of-semester procrastination. Writing tutors and librarians will be available to help and answer questions. Drop in and write as long as you would like on Monday, April 25, from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Hawkins-Carlson Room, Rush Rhees Library.

Applications open for the 2022 Del Monte Institute Pilot Program

Apply today for the 2022 Del Monte Pilot Program. Up to 20 novel basic, clinical, and translational projects in the neurosciences will be supported. Five programs support these awards including, for the first time, the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center. Learn more and apply by Monday, May 23.

Session on waiving the GMAT/GRE for Simon's professional MBA program

Learn how to waive the GMAT/GRE requirement for Simon Business School’s professional MBA program during this virtual session on Tuesday, April 19, at noon EDT. All registrants will receive the recording of the session after the event and live participants will earn an application fee waiver.

XR game night

Take a break from studying and spend an evening playing games in Studio X. On Wednesday, April 20, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., slash beats, smash snacks, and otherwise relax and have fun. If this is your first time gaming in virtual reality, the night starts with a brief headset tutorial. And if you really enjoy yourself, you can reserve headsets after the event. Register to attend.

Holocaust remembrance concert

Eastman School of Music faculty members, students, and alumni will join the worldwide observance of Yom HaShoah by performing “A Time to Remember,” a Holocaust remembrance concert, on Sunday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m. in Kilbourn Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

Learn about the Goergen Institute’s advanced certificate program

Working professionals can learn data science skills—or refresh them—through the advanced certificate program offered by the Goergen Institute for Data Science. Brooke Brehm, a records specialist in the College Center for Advising Services, and Sarah Siddiqui, a STEM librarian in the Carlson Science and Engineering Library, describe how they have benefited from the graduate-level, part-time program.
