Five insights into cryptocurrency

Gone are the days when cryptocurrency was the realm of hobbyists and academics. Yukun Liu, an assistant professor at Simon Business School, offers insights into cryptocurrency based on his research.

Flags will be lowered for John DeCamilla

University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered Tuesday, April 26, for John DeCamilla, a senior health project coordinator in the Clinical Cardiovascular Research Center, who died on April 8. DeCamilla joined the University staff in 2014.

Considering the US for college or graduate school

US News and World Report, April 19

Ravi Shankar, assistant vice provost and director of the International Services Office, says it’s important to consider class sizes and faculty-student ratios and to find out if classes are taught by a teaching assistant or faculty. “Depending on the institution and your learning style, you will have to evaluate the different delivery models and determine your comfort level. American higher education is didactic and demands critical thinking and independent work,” Shankar says.

Celebrate literature at the Sant Jordi Festival

Join the Burgett Intercultural Center, Open Letter Books, and River Campus Libraries for the Sant Jordi Festival, an event full of culture, books, romance, and fun. The festival celebrates translated works and features booths with literary activities including “Blind Date with a Book,” crafts, a raffle, custom cookies, queer literature, and more. The event takes place during Springfest on Saturday, April 23, from 2 to 5 p.m. in Evans Lam Square, Rush Rhees Library. Follow the Burgett Intercultural Center on Instagram for the booth schedule.

Fitness classes at the Goergen Athletic Center

Sign up for fitness classes offered at the Goergen Athletic Center during finals season:

  • Peer-led vinyasa yoga on Mondays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Zumba on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Iyengar yoga via Zoom on Thursdays from 4 to 5 p.m. EDT
  • Iyengar yoga on Thursdays from 6 to 7 p.m.

Classes are open to all undergraduate students and Goergen Athletic Center members. Registration is required.

Poetry, dreamscapes, and magical realism infuse José Rivera’s Marisol

‘Art in Bloom: Flowers in Art’ at the Memorial Art Gallery

Join the Memorial Art Gallery for “Art in Bloom: Flowers in Art,” a celebration of the combined beauty of art and floral design. View imaginative interpretations of artworks by local floral designers in a collaborative exhibition by the Gallery Council of the Memorial Art Gallery and the 7th District Federated Garden Clubs NYS. The event takes place Saturday, April 23, and Sunday, April 24, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Both days will have optional workshops and seminars led by local experts in horticulture, gardening, and floral design, and tickets to the event include admission to the museum and the viewing of all floral arrangements. Learn to use your bike gears in 15 minutes

Fast track your biking skills with “Wheels on Wednesday,” a series of free, 15-minute virtual classes that provide a quick and easy way to learn essential skills and knowledge on a wide range of cycling topics. “Learn to Use Your Gears” on Wednesday, April 27, from noon to 12:15 p.m. EDT via Zoom. No registration is required. See the full schedule of classes, presented by the Department of Transportation and Parking.

Register for the Better Teams, Better Care Symposium

This year’s Better Teams, Better Care Symposium will focus on how to overcome challenges in health care on the way to functioning in high-performing teams. Register to attend the hybrid event on Wednesday, June 8, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. EDT.
