Documentary sheds light on the Parkinson’s ‘pandemic’
A new documentary, The Long Road to Hope, tells the story of individuals with Parkinson’s disease and efforts to study, treat, and prevent the disease from a global perspective. The film was produced by the University’s Center for Health and Technology and features medical commentary from Ray Dorsey, the David M. Levy Professor of Neurology. Medical Center Batavia campus to open May 16
The Medical Center’s new Batavia campus will open its doors to patients on May 16, increasing access to specialist and primary care for patients in Genesee, Orleans, and Wyoming counties. Located at 7995 Call Parkway, the facility will centralize specialty clinics and primary care into one location, along with on-site lab services.
Flags will be lowered for Sherri Guinn
University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered Thursday, May 19, for Sherri Guinn, a nurse leader in cardiovascular nursing, who died on March 31. Guinn joined the University staff in 2011.
The Health Promotion Office hosts wellness events for graduate students and has a monthly newsletter specific to graduate students. You can sign up here to receive the newsletter to stay up to date on the services and programs offered to graduate students like the Graduate Student Wellness Walk, a lawn game day, and more.
The J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge will be held on Tuesday, June 14, at 7 p.m. at Frontier Field. Employees can walk or run the 3.5-mile race with the University team. The entry fee is $38 and includes two shirts. As a corporate event, this is only open to University employees and graduate students. Register online under the “University of Rochester” team by May 17. The University will submit teams of the fastest runners in the hopes of winning a category; winning teams will go to the championship in 2023 with their expenses paid. Lecture: ‘Art Meets Science: Humanizing HIV’
Join Charmaine Wheatley, the Medical Center’s artist-in-residence, and Stephen Dewhurst, the Albert and Phyllis Ritterson Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, for a presentation in conjunction with the Memorial Art Gallery’s Up Against the Wall: Art, Activism, and the AIDS Poster exhibition. “Art Meets Science: Humanizing HIV” takes place Thursday, May 19, at 6 p.m. in the museum’s auditorium and is included with museum admission. ASL interpretation will be provided.
Toxicology retreat keynote seminar
Kenneth Olden, former director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and the National Toxicology Program, will give the keynote seminar for the annual Toxicology Training Program retreat.
