Researchers ramp up HIV vaccine trials with knowledge from COVID-19 vaccine success

Medical Center HIV/AIDS researchers who pivoted to studying COVID vaccines and treatments during the pandemic are returning to HIV trials armed with valuable data and lessons learned from two years of living with SARS-CoV-2.

Update on new positive cases of COVID-19

Eastman musicians to perform as part of the CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival

Several Eastman School of Music musicians— students, faculty, staff, and alumni, as well as students and faculty from the Eastman Community Music School—will be appearing throughout the 2022 CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival, June 17–25. Play board games in Robbins Library

Take a break and play some board games with librarians and library staff members today, June 2, from 1:30 to 5 p.m. in the Robbins Library, fourth floor of Rush Rhees Library. “Towers and Tabletops” features old and new games, including some obscure Arthurian treasures from the library’s collection. Drop by and play at any time.

Film screening, discussion with artist Sky Hopinka

Meet Sky Hopinka, the artist behind Memories of Movement, at the Memorial Art Gallery on Saturday, June 4, at 2 p.m. The event features a one-time screening of a film ensemble Dislocated and Ordinary, including the Rochester premiere of Kicking the Clouds, which was presented at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and the Berlinale Shorts Program. After the screening, Hopinka will engage in a moderated discussion and Q&A. Memories of Movement is on view in the museum’s Media Arts Watch Gallery until January 8, 2023.

Group program to stop smoking or vaping

Stopping tobacco or vaping use can be hard on your own. The next free and virtual “Commit to Quit!” group program offered by the Center for Community Health & Prevention starts at noon on Thursday, June 16. Connect with others with similar goals and learn from nicotine and tobacco experts. Register here.

BBQ fundraiser to support patient-care initiatives at Strong

Join Friends of Strong for a Summer BBQ Fundraiser in support of patient- and family-centered care at Strong Memorial Hospital from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, at the Sarah Flaum Atrium. Each Texas Bar-B-Q Joint meal includes one-quarter of a smoked chicken, along with pulled pork, baked beans, macaroni salad, cornbread, and a bottle of water for $15.
