ROCHESTER IN THE NEWS

Kids with hearing loss will now learn spoken English and ASL in Los Angeles schools

NPR, June 1

“What LA Unified School District is doing right now is groundbreaking. I think it’s historical,” says Wyatte Hall, an assistant professor of public health sciences, of obstetrics and gynecology, of pediatrics, and of neurology, through an interpreter. “For too long, schools have put too much faith into hearing aids or implants. Even the best cochlear implant technology today is not a cure. It does not make deaf people hearing. There’s always a limitation of some kind.”

FOR FACULTY AND STAFF

Survey shows convenience, flexibility top factors for employee commuters

In March, the Department of Transportation and Parking Management surveyed employees to find out how they get to and from work. The survey received over 5,000 unique responses, representing a 23 percent response rate. Based on survey feedback, Transportation and Parking partnered with RTS to offer U-Pass, a free, alternative transportation program to encourage eligible employees to utilize public transportation for their commute. Find out more about eligibility requirements and application instructions and access a breakdown of results here.
