Play a Bach duet with an AI counterpoint

Rochester researchers led by Zhiyao Duan, an associate professor of electrical and computer engineering and of computer science, and members of his lab, including Yongi Zang ’23 and PhD student Christodoulos Benetatos, have developed a web-based system called BachDuet that allows users to improvise duets with an artificial intelligence (AI) counterpart in real-time. By visiting the BachDuet website, users can play duets with the AI agent using a computer keyboard, mouse, touchscreen, or MIDI keyboard.

Making surveys more accessible for Deaf and DeafBlind people

A new survey tool developed in part by members of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute is making it easier to create surveys that are accessible for Deaf and DeafBlind populations.

Kudos: Honors for members of the University community

Members of the University community have been recognized recently with local and University awards and honors. They include:

  • Aileen Aldalur, a postdoctoral associate in emergency medicine; Ajay Dhakal, an assistant professor of medicine; Adam Dziorny, an assistant professor of pediatrics and of biomedical engineering; and Frank Garcea, a postdoctoral associate in neurosurgery, have received KL2 Career Development Awards from the Clinical and Translational Science Institute.
  • Jesse Johnston ’22Marianne Kupin-Lisbin, a candidate for a PhD in history, and Jennifer Tissot ’22 were recognized by the Rochester Area Colleges Continuing Education Consortium as Outstanding Adult Students, awarded to students who have excelled academically while successfully combining their college education with other commitments to family, job, career, and service to the community.  
  • Marcy Kraus, assistant dean and executive director of the College Center for Advising Services, is the 2022 recipient of the Distinguished Contributions to Undergraduate Learning award in the College.
  • Meet the recipients of the 2022 University Research Awards, which provide seed money on a competitive basis for innovative research projects that, when sufficiently developed, are likely to attract external support.

The Greene Center is available to help students navigate questions related to their career journey, including finding organizations with strong LGBTQ+ equality practices and understanding their rights. Face masks are strongly encouraged for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors indoors. Patient care areas, as well as University shuttles and transportation, continue to require masking.
