Performance under pressure at NASA’s Lunabotics competition

A team of Rochester undergraduates had to overcome one crisis after another to get their automated mining robot crawling over a replica lunar landscape at this year’s NASA Lunabotics competition at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The team won the Project Management Award and the Nova Award, which is a new award created for first-year teams with impressive systems engineering work.

Walking gives the brain a ‘step up’ in function for some

Researchers at the Del Monte Institute for Neuroscience have found that some young and healthy people improve performance on cognitive tasks while walking by changing the use of neural resources.

Farewell carillon concert for student carillonneur

Claire Janezic ’22 (T5) will play a farewell carillon concert on Saturday, June 25, at 3:30 p.m. EDT. Janezic was awarded a fellowship from the Belgian American Educational Foundation to study at the Royal Carillon School. Listen live from the Eastman Quadrangle, River Campus, or stream the concert via Facebook.

Summer camp for young writers

The Young Writers Summer Camp welcomes youth who love to write or want to improve their writing. Hosted by the Warner School of Education, the camp will take place August 1–5 for students in grades 6–12. Campers will learn from writing teachers who will use fun writing activities and individual and group instruction to help them improve their skills and discover new types of writing to enjoy. A discount applies for children and grandchildren of University employees and alumni, siblings of current students, and families with more than one child attending camp. The deadline to register is July 15. Find more information and apply here.

Face masks are optional for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors indoors. Patient care areas, as well as University shuttles and transportation, continue to require masking.
