Message from our incoming provost

In a message yesterday to the University community, David Figlio expressed his excitement to join the University as provost. “Like you, I believe that our drive to make the world ever better starts right here at Rochester. To truly live our mission requires us to act with intention and to collectively create the conditions that will make us the model of what a future-looking research university can be.” Read the full message here.

In today’s issue:

  • New research on fragile X syndrome
  • Writing boot camp for graduate students and postdocs
  • A reminder that @Rochester will be on hiatus July 4–8
TODAY’S UPDATES

Early research reveals how a single drug does double duty in fragile X syndrome

A new study from the lab of Lynne Maquat, the J. Lowell Orbison Distinguished Service Alumni Professor in biochemistry and biophysics and the director of Rochester’s Center for RNA Biology, provides information on the development of future treatments for fragile X syndrome. Hana Cho, a research assistant professor, and Elizabeth Abshire, a postdoctoral fellow, are the study’s co-lead authors.

Remembering Peter Regenstreif, an expert on mass media

Peter Regenstreif, a professor emeritus of political science and Canadian studies who taught at the University from 1961 to 2009, is being remembered by faculty, alumni, family, and friends as an expert on Canadian and comparative politics, mass media, and public opinion. Regenstreif died on May 19.

FOR STUDENTS

Graduate student and postdocs writing boot camp

A virtual writing boot camp for AS&E graduate students and postdocs is taking place July 19–22, from 9 a.m. to noon EDT each day. Boot camps offer a structured experience for writers to identify their writing goals, develop and refine these goals in conversations with peers, and receive support for selecting effective strategies. Register online. If you have questions or would like to be added to the Graduate Writing Project listserv, email Liz Tinelli.

FOR FACULTY AND STAFF

F2 Advanced Airfare form update

Beginning July 1, when using the Workday Spend Authorization (SPA#) or the F2 form to book reservations with DePrez Travel and Town and Country, you must provide both your Employee ID and URID numbers. This new requirement will aid in the implementation of Workday Expenses and the American Express transaction integration.

You can find your Employee ID and URID numbers by logging into HRMS. On your homepage, in the upper-righthand corner under “Your Information,” is a badge with Rocky, the University’s mascot. Under your name are your Employee ID and URID numbers. The revised F2 form can be found on the Reimbursement website in the Forms section.

Visit the Workday Expenses Project site for more information about the new functionality.
