“My lab has been inspired by asking the question: Well, if we can’t do X, how are we going to be able to do Y? We learn over time, but neural networks, in general, don’t. You train them once. It’s a fixed entity after that. And that’s a fundamental thing that you’d have to solve if you want to make artificial general intelligence one day,” says Christopher Kanan, an associate professor of computer science.
New opportunities for faculty and staff to register for LGBTQ+ Safe Space courses are now available. The first course is “Part 1: Gaining Knowledge,” which can be found by searching for the “Safe Space Playlist” within MyPath. Following the completion of this course, employees may register to complete “Part 2: Creating Safety,” which allows employees to then become a University LGBTQ+ Safe Space Champion. Attend an information session with Simon Business School, Warner School of Education, and the Office of Total Rewards on Thursday, August 4, Â from 5 to 7 p.m. in Schlegel Hall, Eisenberg Rotunda, to learn how employee tuition benefits can be used for various part-time graduate programs specifically designed for the busy professional. Faculty, current students, admissions, and benefits staff will be present to answer your questions. Rochester is the birthplace of the biopsychosocial model, which considers how biological processes, emotional states, and social contexts interact to influence health and illness. As part of the Department of Psychiatry’s 75th anniversary, the Bridge Art Gallery invites artists to share artwork that reflects the experience of health and illness as the interaction of biological, psychological, and social influences. The deadline to submit artwork is August 25.
