Arts integration in the classroom: Can it deepen students’ understanding?

A partnership between City of Rochester schools and the Memorial Art Gallery leads to innovation in arts education and furthers the museum’s mission to serve the Greater Rochester community. Researchers build a new 3D model for leukemia

Researchers at Wilmot Cancer Institute led by Ben Frisch, an assistant professor of pathology and laboratory medicine and of biomedical engineering, have been building a modular bone-marrow-on-chip to enhance the investigation of leukemia stem cells.

Guidance on collaborations with entities or individuals in the Russian Federation

New York State has issued an executive order prohibiting state agencies from entering into or renewing contracts with an “entity conducting business operations in Russia.” Since the University has contracts with New York State, it has ceased all formal engagements with Russian institutions and entities. With new study, NASA seeks the science behind UFOs

“I think the UAP (unidentified aerial phenomena) stuff is emerging in a climate where we are already discussing life in the universe in a new way,” says Adam Frank, the Helen F. and Fred H. Gowen Professor of Physics and Astronomy. “Now that the ‘giggle factor’ for the scientific search for life in the universe has gone down, it’s possible this also makes it easier for people to discuss UAPs.”

Fundraiser for new adolescent eating disorder residential program

The Western New York Comprehensive Care Center for Eating Disorders, comprised of the School of Nursing, Golisano Children’s Hospital, and the Healing Connection, is hosting a fundraiser at Kettle Ridge Farm, 515 Log Cabin Road, Victor, on Saturday, August 6, from 2 to 5 p.m. in support of a new adolescent eating disorder residential program in Pittsford. Josh Cassada ’00 (PhD) will be part of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-5 mission to the International Space Station, scheduled to launch no earlier than September 29. This is NASA’s fifth crew rotation flight involving a US commercial spacecraft carrying crew for a science expedition aboard the microgravity laboratory and will be Cassada’s first space flight since he was named an astronaut in 2013.

“We’re really excited to get to work. This is an incredible crew. We have three first-time fliers. And what’s so great about this is that we’re doing this for something greater than ourselves,” said Cassada at today’s press conference. “We are incredibly grateful and honored to do this job, and we couldn’t ask for a better crew to do it with.” Find the full press conference here.
