In a message sent yesterday to the University community, David Figlio, provost and Gordon Fyfe Professor of Economics and Education, and Liz Milavec, executive vice president for administration and finance and chief financial officer, shared COVID-19 guidance to help ensure a safe and healthy environment as well as manageable methods to address positive cases on campus.
The University will continue to follow CDC, New York State, and Monroe County guidance throughout the year, and University senior leaders and health officials will coordinate University planning. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to check the COVID-19 Resource Centerfor the most current information.

The University’s Treasury office warns the University community that fraudsters posing as technical support are calling merchants and directing employees to update card terminals by pressing a series of buttons on the terminal. The information the employee enters on the terminal is actually a refund transaction to a card controlled by the fraudster, who then directs the employee to batch the terminal out after completing the refund to set the payment in motion and make it more difficult to reverse the fraudulent transaction. It’s important for all merchants to be aware of this threat and to alert all employees about this scam. Legitimate technical support for terminals is requested by the merchant rather than initiated by the terminal support provider. Routine updates are typically pushed electronically outside of regular business hours, and the merchant doesn’t need to take any action. Contact Treasury@rochester.edu with questions.
