Mt. Hope Family Center expands evidence-based trauma services

The University’s Mt. Hope Family Center has received two federal grants to support its evidence-based treatment and services helping children and families who have experienced trauma and to train and support professionals nationwide. Together, the grants will help clinicians and researchers address child and family trauma at individual and systemic levels.

TODAY’S UPDATES

Todd Ferrin named interim director of campus dining services and auxiliary operations

Todd Ferrin, associate director of auxiliary operations, has been named interim director of campus dining and auxiliary operations, effective immediately. He succeeds longtime director Cam Schauf, who retired this summer. Ferrin will manage dining services on the River Campus and at the Eastman School of Music, and auxiliary services throughout the University.

Annual Shred Fest results

Earlier this month, University Facilities and Services sponsored its 12th annual Shred Fest, resulting in 414 cars dropping off 15,240 pounds (7.62 tons) of paper. Over the past 12 events, Shred Fest has collected and recycled 215,500 pounds (108 tons) of paper. Eastman wellness fair

The Eastman Wellness Fair is an inaugural program offered by the UHS Health Promotion Office on Friday, September 2, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Miller Center at the Eastman School of Music. The fair brings together campus resources, student groups, and Rochester community organizations to educate on wellness practices and resources for Eastman School students. Learn about wellness supports from on and off-campus, engage in interactive activities, get free swag, and have the opportunity to do a hearing screening.

Seminar on anti-racist curriculum development in higher education

Warner School of Education Associate Professor Nancy Ares is offering the one-credit seminar “Anti-Racist Curriculum Development in Higher Education” for University faculty and instructors. The online, synchronous course will meet on Saturdays in October and will be offered again on four Saturdays in the spring. Participants will gain knowledge and skills to create an anti-racist curriculum through the revision of an existing course syllabus, as well as through discussions and selected readings. The Warner School provides a tuition award to cover costs above employee tuition benefits coverage. Contact Nancy Ares for registration information.

Get your annual biometric screening today

Stop by Helen Wood Hall (1W154) today, August 24, from 9:20 a.m. to 11:40 a.m. or 2 to 3:40 p.m. for your annual biometric screening. Screenings will also be given Thursday, August 25, in Flaum Atrium from 9:20 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 3:40 p.m. Walk-ins will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, as the schedule allows. If you can’t make it to either clinic, book an appointment for a future clinic. Biometric screenings are available through Well-U.

Webinar on financial preparation and recovery from a disaster

Attend a webinar on “Disasters: Financial Preparation and Recovery” with the Office of Total Rewards on Wednesday, August 31, from noon to 1 p.m. EDT to learn how to prepare for and recover from disasters financially. A representative from Citizens Bank will conduct the webinar. Enroll here to join the discussion.

Face masks are optional for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors indoors. Patient care areas, as well as University shuttles and transportation, continue to require masking.
