A step forward in ovarian cancer detection

A new study led by Richard Moore, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology and director of the gynecologic oncology program at Wilmot Cancer Institute, shows that a new type of technology can capture stray ovarian cancer cells from a simple blood test and successfully predict cancer in people who have a lesion or cyst in the pelvic region.

Child care subsidy applications now accepted

To help support the rising cost of child and dependent care, the University is offering a Child Care Subsidy Program to assist eligible faculty and staff with child care expenses by providing awards of up to $3,600 a year, depending on total household gross income, through the pre-tax Dependent Care FSA. Applications are being accepted through October 12. You can find more information and frequently asked questions and answers online or contact familycare@rochester.edu with questions.

Retiree benefits webinar today

Join the Office of Total Rewards for a webinar at noon EDT today, September 14, to go over eligibility to retire, what steps to take if you plan to retire soon, health and dental benefits, life insurance, and other incentives offered to you after retirement. Faculty and staff: Find out if your tuition waiver application was approved and see the exact tuition benefits you have received to date by logging in to HRMS and following the path “Main Menu > Self-Service > Benefits > Tuition > Tuition Benefits Received”.

‘Wellness at Eastman’ series begins today at Eastman School of Music

“Wellness at Eastman,” a monthly seminar series from Eastman Performing Arts Medicine, features artists and clinicians speaking about physical and mental wellness for performing artists and is inspired by the Healthy Conservatoires movement in Europe.

The series begins today, September 14, at 6 p.m. EDT with a seminar that explores sound levels on stage and what musicians’ ear plugs can do to help conserve hearing. Seminars will be held monthly in Howard Hanson Hall on the fourth floor of the Eastman School of Music main building and on Zoom. ‘Tsoifest’ conference on musician Viktor Tsoi

The University’s Humanities Project, “Viktor Tsoi: Rock and Roll and the Soviet State”—or “Tsoifest”—is a three-day international conference that focuses on the cultural legacy of Viktor Tsoi, the Soviet Union’s most influential and enduring rock star. The conference takes place September 22–24 and features two academic panels, a keynote address, two film screenings with director Q&A, a roundtable discussion, and an evening musical performance by Viktor Tsoi tribute band Kino Proby. Masking when around other people indoors is strongly encouraged, especially for those who are at increased risk of severe illness if they become infected. Patient care areas, as well as University shuttles and transportation, continue to require masking.
