Are co-sleeper beds safe? Some rebranded as ‘loungers’ after infant deaths, rule change

USA Today, September 26

“We know that the safest (sleep) for babies is kind of co-rooming but not necessarily cosleeping because even a simple sheet over a baby’s face—a newborn’s face especially—could be enough to cause a suffocation and a death,” says Elizabeth Murray, an assistant professor of clinical emergency medicine and of clinical pediatrics.

Writing groups for AS&E undergrads

Do you have writing to do? Writing groups for Arts, Sciences & Engineering undergraduates are led by writing fellows and meet weekly for two hours. The structured writing sessions are designed to support your writing process through guidance, accountability, and community. Bring any kind of academic, professional, or creative writing. Learn more and enroll online. Email liz.tinelli@rochester.edu with questions.

Avoid academic cheating websites

Arts, Sciences & Engineering’s academic honesty liaison advises students to be wary of predatory contract cheating websites that market themselves as academic support, tutoring, or homework help. These sites may be geared more toward providing—and often selling—answers rather than helping you learn.

Keep in mind that under AS&E’s academic honesty policy, giving or receiving help through one of these sites is always a policy violation that will be handled seriously. Reach out to AS&E-supported resources including the Learning Center for tutoring, the Writing and Speaking Center, your course TAs, workshop program leaders, and others.
