SMD alumni make $1.5 million gift to the Division of Plastic Surgery

Joseph Serletti ’62M (MD), ’88M (Res) and Bonnie Serletti ’90M (MD), ’94M (Res), recently made a $1.5 million gift to endow the Serletti Family Cleft and Craniofacial Humanitarian Outreach Initiative at the Medical Center. The Serletti’s generosity will initially support local and international outreach and advocacy efforts of the Pediatric Cleft and Craniofacial Center within the Division of Plastic Surgery at Golisano Children’s Hospital. In the future, this endowment will fund the Serletti Family Professorship, which will help attract, retain, and honor exemplary faculty clinicians in the plastic surgery division.

Prep session for Simon Business School’s Virtual Case Competition

Are you thinking about pursuing graduate business school or are you interested in getting a sense o what it might be like? Simon Business School welcomes you to participate in the Future Business Leaders Case Competition; all majors are welcome. This competition is an opportunity to refine problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills; gain valuable experience for your résumé and receive an introduction to experiential learning. It’s free to participate, and top winners will receive a $250 cash prize, a trophy, Simon swag, and a guaranteed $20,000 scholarship for those who apply to Simon and are admitted for the fall 2023 or fall 2024 semester. And all other finalists will receive prizes. Registration closes October 27.

Writing retreat for AS&E graduate students

The Graduate Writing Project is hosting a three-day virtual writing retreat from October 18 to 20, 5 to 8 p.m. EDT each day designed for AS&E graduate students who are working on graduate-level writing such as dissertations, theses, proposals, and publications. This structured writing experience offers guidance, accountability, and community as well as the option to work one-on-one with a Writing Consultant. Overnight ambassador information session

Overnight ambassadors are needed November 10–11 for prospective students in the Multicultural Visitation Program. Skip the solo ride and hop on RTS fare-free

Transportation and Parking Management supports alternative transportation by providing rideshare options like U-Pass, a free program that encourages commuting via Regional Transit Service (RTS) bus. U-Pass provides free rides on RTS to get around Rochester and surrounding areas. In addition to cost savings, U-Pass helps to reduce parking congestion and carbon footprint by decreasing the number of vehicles on campus. This benefit is available to eligible employees and PhD students with appointments who work at an approved location with paid parking only and choose to forego an annual permit. Since its launch in May, 324 commuters in the University community have joined the U-Pass program. View eligibility requirements and how to apply.

Smartphone apps can provide relief when you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or burnt out. Read the October Behavioral Health Partners blog to learn about various smartphone apps that may help lessen feelings of stress and anxiety, including one through Well-U that all Rochester employees can get at no cost.

Workshop on anti-racist feedback and messaging

Learn anti-racist strategies to reduce student achievement gaps by using stereotype threat and growth mindset principles for providing feedback and messaging to students. The Teaching Center workshop is Thursday, October 13, from noon to 1 p.m. EDT on Zoom and is open to all University faculty. Sign up here to attend, and contact Rachel Remmel with questions.

If you’re thinking about making the transition to retirement, register for a TIAA webinar on Thursday, October 13, at noon EDT can help you understand how to create an income plan that helps you maximize your savings. BRA Day 2022: A discussion on breast reconstruction awareness

Seminar on equity-focused dissemination and implementation science

Equity-focused dissemination and implementation (EQDI) science examines the process by which scientific evidence is implemented in clinical settings and communities. The first seminar of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute’s EQDI fall series will be “Principles, Methods, and Systems for Designing for Dissemination, Sustainability, and Equity,” presented by Bethany Kwan, an associate professor and associate vice chair for research in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
