A successful E-Cycle Day

This year’s E-Cycle Day held on October 21 collected 23,718 pounds (nearly 12 tons) of electronics. Read more about the annual event, hosted by University Facilities and Services, in this week’s Go Green blog post.

Drop-in counseling group today for students dealing with a tragedy abroad in their home country

The University Counseling Center is offering a virtual drop-in group today, November 2, at 4 p.m. EDT for students who are dealing with any tragedy in their home country while studying at Rochester.

Sexual health event on masturbation

Learn more about masturbation and sex with UHS Health Promotion Office peer health advocates on Wednesday, November 9, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in Hirst Lounge and the Gowen Room, Wilson Commons, at “Masturbation 101.”

Talk on building community control

Join the Center for Community Engagement for a conversation about building community control and becoming involved in the Rochester community. The talk takes place Tuesday, November 10, at 5:30 p.m. at Red Tea House, 912 Genesee Street. Attendees receive a free cup of coffee or tea. Open to AS&E students, this event—part of the “Breaking the Bubble” series—is cosponsored by the Office of Residential Life and the Rotary Club of Rochester Southwest.

Open enrollment continues through November 15

Open enrollment is your annual opportunity to enroll in or make changes to your benefit elections for next year. During open enrollment, University faculty and staff can change health care plans, elect to contribute to a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA), elect to increase or decrease their plan coverage, and enroll in Group Universal Life Insurance or several other voluntary benefits. Register to attend an online symposium “Faculty Experiences with Online Learning at the University of Rochester” taking place Friday, November 4, from 11 a.m. to noon EDT.

Careers in Data Science: Tony Wang ’18 (MS), RCI Resorts

The Goergen Institute for Data Science hosts “Careers in Data Science” with Zhuoyou (Tony) Wang ’18 (MS) on Friday, November 4 at 11 a.m. EDT. Wang is a senior data scientist with RCI Resorts, a subsidiary of Wyndham Destinations. Join via Zoom to learn about his career path, work projects, and tips for a career in data science.

Kick off International Education Week at Club Rochester

Students, staff, and faculty can mix and mingle, and enjoy free food, giveaways, discount drinks, and networking at Club Rochester, a campus happy hour. Celebrate the start of International Education Week with a themed menu including baklava, empanadas, and sangria. Hosted by the Office of Global Engagement and the Greene Center together with Wilson Commons Student Activities, Dining Services, and Students’ Association Government, the event takes place on Friday, November 4, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Feldman Ballroom, Douglass Commons. All guests will need to check in using their personal QR code found in the new UR CCC app. Event staff will be available to assist you when checking in. Recital of Brazilian songs

Érico Freire Bezerra, a doctoral student at the Eastman School of Music, leads a recital featuring different composers, regions, and periods of Brazilian art songs. The free concert takes place Friday, November 4, at 7 p.m. in Strong Auditorium.

Immersive meditation retreat

University students, faculty, and staff can join the Mindful University Project for a “Relax and Renew Meditation Retreat” on Saturday, November 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Spurrier Dance Studio. The free, immersive meditation experience will bring you into various contemplative practices including breath awareness meditation, gentle yoga, mindful walking, and lessons about the practice of mindfulness in everyday life.

Retreats are cofacilitated by four Koru Mindfulness teachers. Prior meditation experience is not necessary to participate; dress comfortably. Register to attend.

Open house for master's in marriage and family therapy program

Attend a virtual open house for the Institute for the Family’s master’s in marriage and family therapy program at 3 p.m. EST on Friday, November 18, or Friday, December 9, to learn about whether a career in counseling and family therapy might be right for you. This master’s program offers a unique opportunity to learn in a collaborative interdisciplinary environment to prepare graduates for working with individuals, couples, and families.
