Be extra vigilant with [EXT] emails

Scammers are using fake emails or signatures to appear as University employees. University IT reminds you to pay extra attention to what is in the subject line. Incoming emails from outside the University start with [EXT] in the subject line, to alert you that the message is coming from an external source and remind you to exercise appropriate caution before interacting with the message. For more information, visit University IT’s external email alert page. If you receive a suspicious email, report it immediately to abuse@rochester.edu.

Join the David T. Kearns Center for “FG Week,” a series of events today through Friday, November 11, to acknowledge and celebrate first-generation college students at Rochester. Learn more about the week’s events here.

Health Promotion Office surveys for first-year students

The UHS Health Promotion Office is eager to learn about the experiences and opinions of various student communities to help with the development of services, and the creation of intentional collaborations and environmental level changes on campus. This fall, Peer Health Advocate interns are conducting needs assessments for several first-year student communities and are looking for students to provide their thoughts and share their experiences. All needs assessments will take approximately five minutes to complete and all responses will remain anonymous. Fill out the surveys below:

Enroll in your voluntary benefits through November 15

New and early career faculty at the University can register to attend workshops taking place this month in the Rochester Year One series. Zoom links will be provided for these virtual events.

Lecture on great undelivered speeches

Curt Smith, a senior lecturer of English and former presidential speech writer, presents a free lecture at 12:12 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, at the Central Library of Rochester and Monroe County on great speeches that never were. Smith will discuss the book Undelivered: The Never-Heard Speeches that Would Have Rewritten History by Jeff Nussbaum. Advanced registration is required to attend.

Create your own VR game

Learn how to create your own game on Tuesday, November 8. From 6 to 7:30 p.m., Mary Ann Mavrinac Studio X will be teaching gaming basics using Unity, a real-time creation platform that’s used for games, XR experiences, and visualizations. No experience is necessary, but you do have to register to attend.

A conversation with Kronos founder and University Trustee Mark Ain ’67S (MBA)

On Wednesday, November 9, at noon EST, the Ain Center for Entrepreneurship will host Mark Ain ’67S (MBA), entrepreneur, founder of Kronos Incorporated, and life trustee of the University, for a conversation about his new book, Not Just In Time: The Story of Kronos Incorporated, from Concept to Global Entity. Register here to join remotely for the virtual event. Students can register here for an in-person viewing party at Carol Simon Hall.
