ROCHESTER IN THE NEWS

Campaign donations, spending in NY governor's race highest in 20 years

Newsday, November 28

“Spending in the 2022 gubernatorial race reflected the fact that Republicans had their first real chance at the governorship in two decades,” said David Primo, the Ani and Mark Gabrellian Professor and a professor of political science and of business administration. “This spending reflected a robust, competitive election with two candidates offering competing visions for the state and vying for the votes of New Yorkers. Isn’t this what we should want in a democracy?”

FOR FACULTY AND STAFF

Apply for the 2023 University Research Awards

The request for proposals and online application for the University Research Awards are now available. The award provides seed money on a competitive basis for innovative research projects. Funding is awarded to recipients who demonstrate their projects, when sufficiently developed, are likely to attract external support. Applications for planning grants are also encouraged. A review committee of faculty from across the University provides peer review of the applications.

Applications must be received by 11:59 pm EST on January 31. Late submissions will not be accepted. Selected applicants may be asked to present their research project to the Research Executive Committee before the final award decisions, which will be announced in mid-May. Recipients of the award are required to peer review future University Research Award proposals.

Part of the REAL Conversations series, the presentation will focus on the long history of replacement theory and asks what danger the surge of such ideas in the political and media mainstream poses to free elections and American institutions. Belew’s presentation will be followed by a Q&A session moderated by Jeffrey McCune Jr., director of the Frederick Douglass Institute for African and African-American Studies and the Frederick Douglass Associate Professor of African-American Literature and Culture.
