DPS offers additional information on attempted thefts of Hyundai and Kia vehicles

The Department of Public Safety continues to investigate an increasing number of incidents involving the attempted theft of Hyundai and Kia vehicles around campus. Public Safety is giving extra attention to the target areas as the investigations continue and also is providing an FAQ on the situation, which is affecting the Rochester region.

Elizabeth Murray, an assistant professor of clinical emergency medicine and of clinical pediatrics, says from the bed shortage to overflowing emergency rooms, the last thing parents need is another hurdle. But until the early and aggressive onset of respiratory illness abates, health care providers and parents have no choice but to ride it out together. “Everyone would like to have one thing to blame and there isn’t one thing to blame,” she says. “This is happening for a variety of reasons and we’re going to move through it and we’re going to be OK.”

Panel: ‘Finding Tituba’s Voice: Performing BIPOC Characters in White Spaces’

Historically and dramatically, the character of Tituba, an enslaved woman, is central to the actions of the Salem witch trials depicted in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. Attend a panel discussion today, December 6, on history, authenticity, performance, race, and the performance of race. Panelists include Kat Rina Davis, who performs the role of Tituba in the International Theatre Program’s current production of The Crucible; Mike Jarvis, an associate professor of history; Nigel Maister, the Russell and Ruth Peck Artistic Director of the International Theatre Program; Jeffrey McCune, director of the Frederick Douglass Institute for African and African-American Studies and the Frederick Douglass Associate Professor of African-American Literature and Culture; and actor and educator Esther Winter. The event takes place in Smith Theater in the Sloan Performing Arts Center at 5:30 p.m. with a reception to follow.

Grand rounds webinar on abortion as a health and public health issue

Attend the next public health grand rounds webinar on Friday, December 9, from noon to 1 p.m. EST. Lisa Harris, the F. Wallace and Janet Jeffries Collegiate Professor of Reproductive Health and a professor of obstetrics and gynecology and of women’s and gender studies at the University of Michigan, will present “From Politics Towards Care: Talking about Abortion as a Health and Public Health Issue.” Pre-registration is required. Seeking secret Santas for Strong’s ‘Baby Love’ program

Help brighten the holidays for nearly 300 babies, infants, toddlers, and children throughout the Rochester area enrolled in Strong’s Baby Love program. Friends of Strong Memorial Hospital is collecting donations of gift cards to local retailers on behalf of this Social Work and Patient and Family Services program until Friday, December 9.
