Expressing health equity through art

The Office of Health Equity Research, part of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, recently held a contest with local K-12 students as a way to engage the community on the topic of health equity and to do a little observational research at the same time. Meet the contest winners.

Scholars at Risk Ukraine fellowships

The Office for Global Engagement shares that Scholars at Risk is offering new fellowship support for institutions looking to host displaced scholars from Ukraine. Find more information here.

Flags will be lowered for Hazel McKnight

University flags on the Eastman Quadrangle and near the entrance of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department will be lowered Tuesday, December 27, for Hazel McKnight, a secretary in the Department of Mathematics, who died on November 26. McKnight joined the University staff in 2003.

Tuition reimbursement reminder

If you are attending an outside school for the spring 2023 semester, you must submit your tuition reimbursement application to tuitionbenefits@ur.rochester.edu.The application can be found online and all applications must be received no later than 30 days after the start of the course.

Update your address in HRMS

Make sure your home address is updated within HRMS so you receive time-sensitive materials as soon as possible.

Apply by January 2 to start a new career in nursing

The School of Nursing’s new 24-month Accelerated Nursing Program pathway offers non-nursing college graduates the unique opportunity to earn a second bachelor’s and make a meaningful career change in just 24 months. The program allows students to continue working while enrolled in the six-semester program and, for interested University eligible employees, utilize tuition benefits. The deadline for the first cohort is January 2 to begin the program in May. Learn more.

Online book group with the Gandhi Institute

The M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence is holding a virtual book group to discuss Pro-Voice: How to Keep Listening When the World Wants a Fight by Aspen Baker, taking place Mondays from January 9 through February 6, 7 to 8:30 p.m. EST. Capacity is limited to 25; register here to reserve your spot. Email gwen@gandhiinstiute.org with questions.

Submit project proposals for 2023–24 Rochester Youth Year fellows, 2023 Rochester Urban Fellows

The Center for Community Engagement is seeking proposals for community-based projects that build the capacity for organizations to alleviate poverty for youth and families in Rochester. Organizations may host students to work on these projects in summer 2023 through the Rochester Urban Fellows program, or recent graduates to undertake projects between August 2023 and July 2024 through the Rochester Youth Year program. Proposals for both programs are due by February 17.
