TODAY’S UPDATES

Equity and Inclusion office message, resources on the mass shooting in Monterey Park

In a message to the University community, the deans and directors of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) at the University write that the killing of 11 people at a Lunar New Year celebration in Monterey Park, California, has sent waves of sorrow and anger across the nation about the loss of life during a time that is supposed to be filled with joy and renewal. The University stands with members of the Asian and Pacific Islander communities as they mourn the dead and try to make sense of this senseless act of violence, which has become all too commonplace, and understands that this latest gun crime may be especially traumatic to people already feeling uncomfortable or unsafe in public spaces. Find the full message here.

The University Counseling Center is hosting a virtual drop-in session to support students in the aftermath of the shooting today, January 24, at 11 a.m. EST, and Wednesday, January 25, at noon EST. Resources are also available through University Health Service Counseling Center at (585) 275-3113, Employee Assistance Program (EAP) at 585-276-9110, the CARE Network, and the River Campus Interfaith Chapel at (585) 275-4321.
