Undergraduate research explores the ethics of dark tourism

With the help of the University’s Discover Grant and the Meliora Scholars program, Julia Granato ’23, who is double majoring in evolutionary biology and archaeology, technology, and historical structures, crisscrossed Europe this past summer to study human bone collection and display sites in Prague, Vienna, Florence, and Rome. Now she’s pondering what it means to display and visit human remains. Learn more about her research project.

Graduate student workshops on relating to your advisor

The relationships between graduate students and their advisors often can be sources of support and stress, with interactions that can involve social dynamics and power differentials. In this series of workshops for graduate students, University Counseling Center predoctoral interns will highlight interpersonal effectiveness skills which emphasize how you can get what you need from others more often while considering objective effectiveness, relationship effectiveness, and self-respect effectiveness. Attendance at Part I is required in order to attend Part II. If you attended the “Advisor Relations and Interpersonal Effectiveness” webinar in the fall, you can also attend Part II. Increase your tax refund with the Saver’s Credit

If you made contributions to your TIAA retirement account in 2022 you may qualify for the Saver’s Credit, a federal tax credit of up to $2,000 if married and filing jointly. Unlike a deduction, a credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction of your federal income tax liability, and this credit can reduce the amount you owe or increase your refund for taxes already paid. Faculty and staff: Are you utilizing the tuition reimbursement benefit for the fall 2022 semester? Be sure to submit your supporting documents—tuition bill, proof of payment, and final grades—to tuitionbenefits@ur.rochester.edu within 90 days of the completion of the course.

As part of Winterfest Weekend, enjoy comedy sets from Saturday Night Live cast members Chris Redd, Alex Moffat, and Melissa Villaseñor, with host Karen Chee, at 9 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, in Kodak Hall, Eastman School of Music. Tickets are $10 for Rochester undergraduates and $30 for University faculty, staff, graduate students, and the general public, and can be purchased online through the Eastman Box Office.
