“Campus Race to Zero Waste,” a nationwide friendly competition among universities—is taking place from January 29 through March 25. Read this week’s Go Green blog post about how to minimize waste on campus, increase recycling, and participate in competition events.

LiDA spring colloquium on promises and perils of AI-generated texts for education

The next event in the Center for Learning in the Digital Age’s (LiDA) spring colloquium series, “Promises and Perils of AI-generated Texts for Education,” takes place today, February 8, at 3:30 p.m. EST via Zoom. The session will include brief presentations from a few “conversation starters” who will share their perspectives or current work on the topic, followed by facilitated breakout rooms where all participants can share and discuss their own experiences and thoughts. Tickets available for ‘Batman in Concert’

Experience “Batman in Concert” on Friday, February 10, at 7:30 p.m. in Kodak Hall, Eastman School of Music. The live-to-picture performance features the 1989 film accompanied by an orchestra of student members of Eastman’s Empire Film and Media Ensemble. 2023 Highland Hospital Gala

Attend the annual Highland Hospital gala on Saturday, March 18, at 6 p.m. for cocktails, dinner, and music to celebrate the community. Funds raised will benefit the final stages of Highland Hospital’s new patient tower, which will convert nearly all its patient care rooms into private. Make a donation or register online.

Eastman School to host inaugural Context Conference on equity and inclusion in music

The Eastman School of Music will host the inaugural “Context Conference 2023: Contextualizing Equity and Inclusion in Music,” from November 3 to 4. Crystal Sellers Battle, associate dean of equity and inclusion at Eastman, and Lisa Beckley-Roberts, chair and an associate professor of ethnomusicology at Jackson State University, are the keynote speakers. The two-day conference will include breakout group sessions, pre-concert receptions, two performances, and other activities. Proposals for sessions are being accepted and may be submitted online through the conference website. Submissions are due March 17; registration will not go live until April.
